Basic Scope and Purpose

As the team leader for an existing team, the Director of Systems Development (DSD) will be expected to maintain a development team with the skills needed to deliver solutions using the client’s applications architecture. To provide structure for the team, the DSD must define and enforce standards and practices for the development, establishing and evolving an overall process using proven industry methodologies. The DSD will be expected to maintain and grow his/her own skill set in order to facilitate mentoring the development team members in industry best practices, participating as necessary in all aspects of the team members' duties. The DSD will direct and oversee all aspects of the technology supporting client’s websites and other designated applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Supervision of the Following Job Functions
Ø Systems development staff

· Primary Activities
Ø Lead efforts for system development to include requirements gathering, application design, database analysis and design, website design and development and all other aspects of the development lifecycle
Ø Develop implementation plans for development projects and monitor implementation progress
Ø Implement a measurement system to track solution delivery success using metrics to identify weaknesses in the development process and ultimately to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of web and systems development
Ø Support production software operations to include testing and debugging programs for in-house developed systems
Ø Coordinate with third-party suppliers of hardware and/or software to facilitate problem resolution and system enhancements, specifically, but not limited to, client content management system, web hardware/software infrastructure and other applications as designated
Ø Lead efforts to develop and implement templates in the content management system
Ø Collaborate with staff to define system requirements
Ø Working with the development staff, maintain a defect tracking application for designated systems
Ø Enhance website traffic through the use of search engine optimization and other tools
Ø Continually enhance website analytics reporting to supply detailed information as required by management
Ø Develop and maintain system support schedules to ensure staff are available for support of designated applications including client websites
Ø As manager of the development team, perform administrative and logistical functions associated with managing the group as defined in the BMI Personnel Handbook and by the SVP & CFO
Ø Assist management in developing strategies for websites that support the company's business goals
Ø Provides updates as needed to the SVP & CFO on the status of all projects and development staff utilization
Ø Assist the SVP & CFO in the administration of designated technology contracts

· Miscellaneous
Ø Assists the SVP & CFO in the preparation of the department's annual operating and capital budget related to website technology


·A minimum of 8 years experience in systems development including developing websites and web-based applications with a good understanding of current web technologies. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is desired.
·Experience with some or all: ASP.NET 2.0, SQL, HTML, XHTML, XML, XLST, DHTML, JavaScript, C#
·Demonstrated experience using Visual Studio, Visual Web Developer or Dreamweaver
·Demonstrated experience with Web Services development
·Experience with Flash development
·Experience with cascading style sheets (CSS)
·Demonstrated systems administration experience with SQL Server 2005 to include tuning, backup/recovery, systems management.
·Demonstrated SQL Server 2005 development experience (SSIS, Functions, Stored Procedures, Advanced Queries, Scheduling, etc.)
·Demonstrated experience with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Server Development
·Experience with online help and help documentation authoring using MadCap, RoboHelp, etc. as well as integrating help systems and documentation with applications
·Experience with Windows Server 2003 x64 configuration and management experience
·Experience with enterprise-wide monitoring applications
·Demonstrated experience with Google Analytics, Adwords and Webmaster Tools
·Demonstrated experience in website analytics reporting
·Experience with mobile application development and compatibility
·Experience with video editing
·Experience with Microsoft Access
·FTP server configuration and management
·Experience with DNS configuration
·Experience with SMTP server configuration
·Knowledge of Microsoft software development framework and related development environments
·Strong knowledge of Content Management Systems (Ektron CMS is preferable)
·Knowledge of SEO techniques
·Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Project
·Experience with source control applications (Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, etc.)
