Brews & Beans at Jackalope & Zollikoffee

Please join your fellow Nashvegans for this informative and fun meetup! Jackalope is a major player in Nashville's burgeoning craft beer renaissance. CEO & Brewmaster Bailey Spaulding is a vegetarian and all of Jackalope's beers, with a couple seasonal exceptions, are vegan. Assistant Brewer Sally Cooper, also a vegetarian, will be on hand to explain how Jackalope beer is made.

Don't like to imbibe? No problem! The Jackalope taproom is also home to Zollikoffee, a truly excellent coffee shop. Enjoy a latte or herbal tea along with vegan treats - they're baking vegan cookies just for us! Veggie wraps and a vegan orzo pasta salad will also be available.

No problem if you need to come late (the taproom is open until 8:00 PM) but Sally's presentation will be at 5:30. Please RSVP so I can let Zollie know how many cookies to bake!

See you there!

Not at work today and not wanting to make the journey in since I will be up early for an all day hike on Saturday. Have a great time and I look forward to meeting the group soon.

I'm SOOOOOOO sorry, Liz. My professor wants us all go to this talk tomorrow and she just told me today that I really have to go... I wish I could go! The event I have to go to is from 7-8 so I couldn't even go late if I wanted to... = (

My husband and I are going to do our best to make it to this event! We live in Clarksville, so it'll largely depend on when we get out work and what traffic on 24 is like. Please tentatively count us in. Hoping to make it to our first meetup event, and looking forward to meeting everyone. Fingers crossed, we'll be there!

My family will be coming into town this day to visit me, so I'm going to have to change my response to no. Hopefully y'all do this event again sometime, though!

Many beers and wines are not vegan because animal products are used for the fining process. Eggs and fish bladder are used to attract sediment to make the liquid clearer and then removed. Vegan beer and wine fine with clay.

Now I've not been a vegan for long...but I have home brewed for many years. I have never known anyone to make beer with meat or animals in it. And yeast is not an animal. So......assuming that the brewer follows the ReinHeitsgebot of 1516, how can a beer NOT be vegan???

But it's not vegan according to vegan standards, so it's something I won't drink. And that tends to make it tough to order a drink and say, "does that have milk/honey/bacon/etc in it? Hold on, let me google it.." all of the time. I, personally, think it's fantastic that the beers/"beers" there will be mostly vegan and we'll have someone knowledgeable enough to let us know for sure which ones are and are not vegan friendly. I LOVE getting to go out and not ask a million questions or worry that something isn't as vegan as my server thinks it might possibly be. Hooray!!

ReinHeitsgebot is known as the German Purity Laws of 1516. It basically says that to follow the law, beer makers can only use water, hops, yeast, and pure water.
