What we’re about
In today's go-go-go, everybody's behind, got to get more done world, it seems like our work week keeps us stressed to the max. That makes our weekends even more important, as a way to get out and get away from all the stresses of our jobs. But sometimes we're just too busy to find different things to do or meet new people. One group of Tennesseans has found a way around that time crunch. They meet up through the internet...first on a web page, then live and in person...and always with a common goal of outdoor adventure. Get to know Nashville Hiking Meetup.
In addition to our regular hikes and other outdoor adventures, we also plan social events and organize community volunteer projects such as park cleanup and trail building!
Get exercise,
. Make new friends,
. . Respect the environment,
. . . Give back to the community,
. . . . Laugh a lot
What more could you want? :-)

See all- Mossy Ridge Trail - Evening Hike for Experienced hikers (Bring a Light!)Percy Warner Park - Deep Well Entrance, Nashville, TN
HIKE STATS:
Time: Hike starts promptly at 6:30 P.M.
Place: Deep Well entrance of Percy Warner Park (Google Maps)
Distance: 5½+ total miles
Estimated Hike Time: 2+ hours
Difficulty: Moderate (Can be very strenuous for novice hikers - Headlamps/flashlights are needed)
Hike Leader: Mike Hicks
Notes: Dogs on a leash okay (Park regs require no more than 6-ft leash - you may be ticketed if you fail to use a leash!)The Mossy Ridge Trail is the longest of the three loop footpaths in the Warner Parks. An ideal training hike, the path leaves the Deep Well trailhead and winds through rich hollows and dry ridges of the Harpeth Hills, making frequent but never sustained elevation changes. Scattered in the woods are big trees and a spring-fed waterfall. At 4.5 miles, the Mossy Ridge Trail qualifies as a full-fledged hike that will not disappoint.

* To sign up for this hike, please RSVP here on Meetup, but you must also register on the Tennessee State Parks event page: https://tnstateparks.com/parks/event_details/long-hunter/#/?event=sunset-tn-desert-4-26-2024 The hike is limited to the first 12 who sign up on the park event page. I'm posting here to give Meetup members first dibs.
During the day, Long Hunter's cedar glades are a wonderland of rare wildflowers, but after sunset it's a different world filled with unusual sights and sounds.
Join Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Jason Allen as we explore and learn about this unique habitat that's sometimes called the Tennessee Desert. We'll look for and discuss some of the glade's rare wildflowers while it's still light out. Once the sun goes down, we'll hopefully hear some of the unusual night birds known as nightjars.
This is a flat, easy one-mile hike. Feel free to bring a light source, although we won't use artificial light unless necessary. And don't forget insect repellent.
No pets, please.
Keep in mind that this will not be a fast-paced hike. We will stop often to enjoy and discuss the area's natural features.
Directions to Couchville Cedar Glade:
From I-40 exit on Highway 171 and go south on South Mount Juliet Rd. for about six miles then bear left onto South Mt Juliet Rd. The parking area is one half mile on the right. From I-24, exit at Old Hickory (southeast Nashville near Hickory Hollow Mall) and proceed east for approximately 12 miles. Turn right at South Mt Juliet Rd about one and one half miles past the Long Hunter State Park entrance. The parking area is one half mile on the right.
