Michele, it was the Google Maps written directions that got me lost. If I had gone by the illustration, which I forgot to bring, I would have gotten there OK. J wrote: "Even my GPS took me a little off course on the way there." See?! See?! There *was* a trickster god at work! Probably Coyote, it sounds like his speed. Or, maybe aliens with a twisted sense of humor... something.

Thanks Sylvia ... I think I'll trade mapquest in for google maps from here on out!!

Michele, my Google Map directions sent me the same way as the ones you had and I got lost as well. If I hadn't come across someone out in his yard who was able to steer me around in the right direction, I would have also missed the hike (I almost did). I felt silly when I followed someone back out at the end of the hike and saw how simple it had really been without the extra eastward jaunt on Hydes Ferry.

Sorry I missed the hike! I should have checked the posts sooner. My mapquest directions said Briley Pkwy to Exit 24 then merge onto Hydes Ferry then left onto Old Hickory Blvd. Needless to say I got super lost and I'm not familiar with that area. Please don't black list me for not showing! :) I'll be more careful about directions next time.

Susan, not unless you want to swim across the Cumberland. :-) Best bet is to take Ashland City Hwy to OHB and south. Here's a map: http://maps.google.com/maps...

What's the best way to get to Bell' s Bend from Old Hickory Blvd in Brentwood? Is it a straight shoot down Old Hickory Blvd?

Lisa, should be in the 2.5 mile range.

    •  It was an easy hike. This group had the energy for another lap.
    •  I would have preferred a little longer of a trail.
    •  This was a very enjoyable hike. A few hills to make us huff and puff, pleasant scenery in a location which makes one forget that the city is just a short distance away, and great companionship. Let's do it again soon!!
    •  Only thing that didn't make this a 5-star hike was it was too short.
    •  Less than 2 1/2 miles thru open field on mostly gravel road, part of it along the Cumberland River.
    •  The company was as fun as always, but personally I didn't care for the trail itself because I prefer to hike in a woodland area, under a canopy of trees. <=== Purely subjective opinion. I'm in it for the photography as well as the hiking, and overgrown pasture doesn't do much for my Muse. Maybe I was spoiled by the diverse wealth of photo ops on the Narrows of Harpeth hike yesterday.
    •  The hike was different and interesting. The company was great.
