Urban Hike - 5 mile trek with Cara Alexander, Park Ranger, Bicentennial Mall

See downtown Nashville and its landmarks on foot and up close! Tennessee Hiking Group's urban hikes have become a popular trek for beginners and expert hikers alike. This is a wonderful opportunity for first-time visitors the see Music City!

This is a special edition of Tennessee Hiking Group's popular Wednesday Night Urban Hike. Cara Alexander, Park Ranger, Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, will join us and provide a walking tour of the Mall, as well as some history of Germantown.

Departure Time: 11:00 a.m. SHARP (unless we have a good reason to wait)

Distance: ~ 5 miles

Hike Time: 2 hours

Rating: Moderate

Join Tennessee Hiking Group and NHM for a walk through Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, into Germantown, back through Bicentennial Mall, past the State Capitol (via 240 steps), through downtown, past the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, across the Cumberland River via the Shelby Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, past LP Field, then back to Bicentennial Mall.

This "Hike" is for beginners and experienced hikers, alike. We will take it easy on this walk. No one is left alone, and there are no expectations...we do this for fellowship, exercise, and fun.

All are welcome to stay and enjoy lunch at Farmer's Market, after the hike.

Dress for the weather, wear comfortable footwear, and bring some water. See downtown Nashville up close, stop the world from spinning in Bicentennial Mall, and ring the State Capitol Liberty Bell (it is loud and fun!). The privilege of ringing the bell goes to the first lady who reaches it, and who is hiking this hike for the first time.

Arlene, great question, and one that's answered above just under the James Roberson Parkway address.

Arlene - the Amphitheater is at the south end of Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park. There is parking all along the streets bordering the Park, and there is a parking lot to the east of the Amphitheater, on the north side of Harrison Street, between 5th & 6th Avenues. Here is a Google Map link showing the Amphitheater, parking, and Farmer's Market: http://goo.gl/maps/Vm....

We will meet at the amphitheater, and essentially divide the event into two segments: 1. Bicentennial Mall/Germantown, and; 2. The remainder of the traditional Urban Hike.
Part 1 will officially end when we all arrive back at the amphitheater.
Those wishing to continue on the Urban Hike may follow me through downtown Nashville for an additional 4 miles.
The food court at Farmers Market will be open for lunch.
At this writing, the joint attendance between THG and NHM, is at 112. This should be quite an event! See you there!
