  • NOTE NEW START TIME: 4:00 p.m.

Join Nashville Hiking Meetup and Team Green Adventures for an Independence Day picnic at Centennial Park! Afterwards we'll head downtown via the Nashville Double Decker bus to watch the fireworks!

    Here are the details:

Picnic - Everyone is welcome! – We’ll meet at Centennial Park's sand volleyball courts (back left corner by 31st and Park Plaza) starting at 4:00 for a picnic and some volleyball before heading downtown. Please bring whatever you’d like to eat, your favorite beverages and a side dish to share. Bring your own utensils and plates, we will provide cups, ice and a grill. Also bring a folding chair and if you have a volleyball or Frisbee, please bring it along with you.

Fireworks – according to a the Nashville Business Journal, a national survey ranked Nashville’s fireworks bash as the second best in the nation behind Philadelphia… and if you’ve seen it before, you’d have to agree that it’s a spectacular show!!! We will depart from Centennial Park at 6:15 on the British double decker bus to watch the fireworks in style.

What to Bring – Food for the picnic, frisbees, volleyballs, cornhole, and adult beverages for the bus ride to the fireworks.

Downtown by Car - If you'd prefer to skip the double decker ride but you'd still like to go downtown after the picnic, plan to meet up at the Batter's Box at 43 Hermitage Avenue.

Downtown by Bike - Feel free to bring your bikes and helmets to zip downtown (suggested route - Centennial Park to Batter's Box) and back for the fireworks. You can meet the rest of the gang at The Batter's Box or take in the fireworks on one of the Cumberland River bridges.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The picnic and bus to fireworks are two separate events. If you want on the bus, be sure to RSVP and pay here:  http://www.meetup.com/nashville-hiking/events/106677772/

Okay... for anyone who would still like to celebrate downtown, the Batter's Box is still our destination! They are going to allow us to set up our own little tent city of SUV's and tents. They have roped off an area in the parking lot next to the street that will fit 4 SUV's with the lift gates open and tents in between. So, if you have an SUV, canopy tent, tarps or anything else that will provide good cover, please come join us! We'll be there by around 6:00 or so.

Some of us are trying to at least find an alternative site to meet to watch the fireworks. Our goal is to set up a little tent/tarp land somewhere in one of the parking lots. Stay tuned and I'll let you know what we come up with.

Will the picnic still on if it will be raining out? I know there was an email sent out about the event and double decker is a rain or shine event but wasn't sure if that included the picnic as well

I'm new to the group as well, and am also in Bellevue. So Jeff - I would be interested in carpooling. I plan to go to the picnic but not on the bus.

Are you planning on the going to the Batters Box thing after?

      July 3, 2013

    • Katie

I'm not sure what thing you're talking about. I kind of doubt I'd be up for something else, though...

Looking forward to seeing everyone again! Thinking about stopping by the Music City Hot Chicken Festival @ East Park
(700 Woodland Street) for a few minutes, before going to Centennial Park. I understand Prince's will be there. Anybody else going?

I think that I will ride my bike there or carpool since I missed the bis!:-)

  • Vickie

How is parking at the Batters Box? Or will we be on our own if we are driving to find parking???

    July 2, 2013

  • Jeff Rennert

Hi, I'm new to the group and Nashville in general so I would totally be down for carpooling. I am out near the Bellevue area if anyone is around here. I don't know the areas too well. If no interest in carpooling can anyone tell me how parking works at the park? Is there ample space? Pay to park? And if no carpooling to the picnic maybe just the after event at the Batters Box.

    July 2, 2013

  • Liz

Are we bringing beverages for everyone or just for yourself and for food to bring to eat?

    July 2, 2013

  • Kelly Stewart

If you have a grill and are NOT planning on taking the double decker, please be a pal and bring said grill and charcoal. By not taking the bus you have more time to let your grill cool down before packing it up. Thanks!
