Meeting Time: 10:30 AM
Meeting Place: Long Hunter State Park office at 2910 Hobson Pike
Hike Distance: 1-2 miles
Estimated Hike Time: 2-3 hours
Hike Leader: Ponda and Jason
Long Hunter State Park shares over 30 miles of shoreline with Percy Priest Lake - which results in a constant battle to keep the park clean of litter. Major flooding has impacted Long Hunter facilities and trails in three of the past four years. This year there was even flooding in July, which is a rarity for the park. As a result, debris has been left behind on many of the park trails.
As many state parks deal with lack of funding and being short-staffed, it is often left up to Friends groups and volunteers to help keep the parks clean. On this day we will be joining the Friends of Long Hunter State Park to remove litter and debris from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m.
Participants should meet at the park office at 10:30 a.m. Participants are also invited to arrive early and attend the monthly Friends of Long Hunter meeting from 9-10 a.m. at the park office. The meeting will be a great opportunity to learn more about Long Hunter State Park and the Friends group and some of the exciting things that are happening at the park. More information on the Friends group can be found at http://friendsoflonghunter.com/
Trash bags will be provided. Please bring work gloves and water. No pets, please. Best suited for ages 12 and older.
