This is the last of the summer series of hike and swim trips. We travel to Savage Gulf to hike the easy-to-moderate trails to Savage Falls.

We start on the 4.2 mile Savage Day Loop Trail, hiking counter-clockwise. At the 2.75 mile mark we take the spur trail to the Savage Falls Overlook. Returning to the loop trail we continue another half-mile to the South Rim Trail junction. We hike another half-mile to the entrance to Savage Falls where we'll stop for lunch and a swim.

Once we have enjoyed a swim at the Savage Falls' catch basin, we return to our cars via the 1-mile route ending the Savage Loop Trail.

This hike is open to 15 hikers. We will meet at the Home Depot on Bell Road next to Olive Garden at 8:45 AM. We'll carpool to the hike. Bring water, lunch, light hiking shoes and something you can wear swimming. Please bring a towel and change of clothes to keep your driver's car clean. Contact Michael with your questions and/or to make your reservation - [masked].- or leave a note on the NHM site.

He is really a terrific leader. I will definitely be looking for more hikes under his guidance.

Folks, I tried to send an e-mail to "folks attending the hike only" on Saturday. I am still learning the system. If I did it incorrectly, I ask forgiveness. I am accustomed to having people call me at the store to sign up so I can call everyone back myself the day or two before the hike. Those who have hiked with me for years know this. The Home Depot is near the Bell Road/I-24 interchange. I know little about the area otherwise as I live on the other side of town. If you live down I-24 from the Antioch area, we will regroup at the Stuckey's off Exit 127. My email is included in the hike description.

Well, since I asked where we're this Home Depot is that we're supposed to meet at, and not one person has taken a minute to answer me, I guess I'll take myself out of this hike. Too bad, because it sounded like a lot of fun. I hope this isn't the way that these are always handled, because everybody in these groups don't know where everything is at.

As far as I know, we are meeting at the Home Depot on Bell Road. I'm thinking it may be easier for me to just go ahead and drive out there since I am in Smyrna. That would be back tracking for me.

I better pass this time. I'm not sure where we're supposed to meet or what time.

are we planning to meet at this location: 3157 State Route 399, Palmer, TN

    September 13, 2013

    • Michael D H.

From my "research" into making directions to hand out as I do for every hike, the location in Palmer is not the location we are looking for. From my directions: Turn slight left onto TN-399 / Barkertown Rd. follow TN-399 – 5.1 Miles - Look for Savage Gulf Ranger Station on left

I am coming from Chattanooga - can I meet you at the ranger station? Where will you park for this hike?

Is the Home Depot near the Steak and Shake?

Adrienne, this is my first trip with this group. I do hike by myself a lot, so I am accustomed to hiking, but I've never been with the group before - it sounds like a good trip to start with to me.

Would this be a good trip for a noob to get involved?

How many total miles are you expecting to hike? How long do you expect the hike to take?

Hi John. I live in Mount Juliet, so meeting you at Mapco on Stewarts Ferry Pike (I'm assuming you mean the one right by I-40 - correct me if I'm wrong) would be great for me.

    September 11, 2013

  • John l.

Hey if you guys can meet me at the Mapco on Stewarts ferry pike I'll follow you there instead of me going all the way over there to Franklin
