Easy 3 Mile Hike at Bowie Nature Park West of Nashville

Bowie Nature Park has over 700 beautiful acres of forest, approximately 17 miles of trails, 6 lakes, and several creeks. We will incorporate 3 lakes and 3 miles on this hike. The trails are fairly wide, well kept, and easy to hike, they are shared with horse riders and mountain bikes.  This is a great hike for beginners.

HIKE STATS:
Meeting Time: 4:00 P.M.
Meeting Place: Bowie Nature Park 7211 Bowie Lake Rd, Fairview, TN 37062
Estimated Drive Time from Nashville (one way): approximately 30 minutes
Hike Distance: 3 total easy miles with option to skip the Lake View for 2 ½ miles
Estimated Hike Time: 1 ½ hours

Difficulty: Easy, slow pace – this is an unpaved hike with minimal elevation changes - an unpaved hike doesn’t get much easier

Hike Leader: Lisa
Notes: Dogs are welcome – per park rules, they must be on a leash or tether at all times. Please bring a bag to clean up after you dog.

Bowie Nature Park is a family friendly hike where you can explore the many trails, lakes, and creeks in this forest with over 700 acres - of course there is always a potential to see wildlife. The 3-mile hike includes walking the Loblolly Loop trail, turning at the Twin Lakes Loop where we will run into Lake Anna. We will walk the ½ mile around Lake Anna - there is a picnic area by the lake if the group needs a brief resting place or would like to skip the walk around the lake. We will then take the Twin Lakes Loop back to Loblolly Loop and finish this trail at Lake Van. Finally, we will walk the half mile around Lake Van and end back up where we began. There are picnic tables at Lake Van if anyone would like to bring sandwiches and drinks. As a word of warning, there are many ducks and geese that will welcome you at the picnic area – the park asks that you refrain from feeding them.

The trails are well kept, they are dirt, rock, and many areas are covered with pine needles. Please remember that we may share the trails with mountain bikers and horse riders. Be prepared for mud, potential slippery spots, and very slight inclines at times. Bring hiking boots (preferred), bug spray, your camera, and plenty of water. We'll meet at the kiosk in front of the restrooms and leave promptly at 4:00.

Final Update: a shower just passed and National Weather Radar shows a clearing through 6:15 or so. I'm going to head to the park shortly. Call me if you need anything. [masked]

I'm sorry but I don't think I will be joining today. I'm little worried about the weather. Hopefully I can join you in the future when the weather is better :)

64 degrees with very light sprinkles (on and off). The trails are mostly covered with pine needles but plan on it being muddy in a few places.

We have very light rain (a little more than a mist) and it's 66 degrees. I'll keep everyone updated but I still plan on hiking.

I'm hopeful that the rain will hold off and we can get this hike in This is a slow paced hike with minimal elevation changes. I will post an hour prior to the hike if it's going to be cancelled. In the event of rain we will NOT hike if there is heavy rain or lightening. If it is raining lightly the group typically picks up the pace and will complete this in about an hour.
Looking forward to meeting (or seeing) everyone.
