Radnor Lake - Moderate Hike - 10/26

HIKE STATS:
Meeting Place: Trailhead at Granny White Pike/Visitor Center entrance
Hike Distance: up to 5 miles
Estimated Hike Time: max 2 hours
Event Leader: Hassan
Difficulty: Moderate

We'll start at the Granny White Pike entrance parking lot, and depending on what the group feels like, we can do a mixture of the trails. Kids are certainly welcome, but pets are not allowed on the trails.

Note that on good weather days Radnor parking can get crowded. Please observe all traffic flow and parking rules posted.

Some instructions:

1. DO NOT enter Radnor Lake from the Franklin Road side. You must enter from Granny White Pike/Otter Creek Road because the road is blocked to vehicle traffic through the park. On maps Otter Creek Road looks like a through street for cars but it is not.

2. There is only one parking lot on the Granny White end so it won't be hard to find us. We'll be the crowd of people standing around.

3. There is not a sign for Radnor Lake on Granny White Pike. Look on the map for where Otter Creek Road intersects Granny White Pike and turn there.

Most of the group were a little more advanced in their hiking ability than we were. My husband had back surgery recently and hasn't yet reached his ability to walk at a faster clip but he's working on it. Thank you Sherry for walking with us from the "split" to the end. We enjoyed our morning."

Thanks Hassan for hosting the hike. It was great. Carol Beth and I did make it up the Grainer Ridge Trail and then hiked the Access Trail and Lake Trail. We were just a slower pace than you guys but thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful day and nature. Nice to meet everyone.

We were going at a good clip. Barbara and I walked at a more relaxed pace on South Cove. We wanted to talk as much as walk! You still got a workout. I think you did 4.76 miles- pretty good!

It was wonderful Susan! We weren't sure exactly how much we did but were very pleased with ourselves:) We will definitely be back and we want to do the South side for sure!

It was a good day for hiking. After Barbara and I ate lunch, we returned to Radnor to do Ganier again. We ended up at 10.09 miles for the day. It felt great!

Does anyone know of another place to park if its full? I saw some people walking up the street last time when I couldn't find a spot. I know sometimes people parallel park across from the lot but even that was full: I am wondering if anyone ever parks in the neighborhoods across Granny White? Thanks.

Yes; you may park at the church on the corner of Granny White Pike and Otter Creek Road. It is about a 5 minute walk.
