Discover Big Swan Headwaters Day

Join us for a hike on the 1400 acre Big Swan Headwaters Preserve, in Lewis County, TN. Created in 2004 by www.swantrust.org, this beautiful land is known for its variety of wildflowers, pristine streams, numerous wetlands and small waterfalls. Located adjacent to the world famous intentional community called The Farm, folks will gather at The Farm Store for a moderately strenuous hike of about 2-3 hours. For those who can stay longer, a fundraiser dinner will follow. Last year this hike drew about 50 people and it was a gorgeous day. If you came last year, we will travel this time to an entirely different watershed and portion of the Preserve. Feel free to contact me for details, directions, or any questions you may have. I hope to see you there. [masked]

Looking forward to the hike! Just to clarify, is the right address for The Farm Store the 101 Walker Road one on the map link above or 100 Second Road? Looks like they're a few miles apart, so I don't want to go to the wrong one. Thanks!

101 Walker Road brings you to our front entrance and Welcome Center (closed on Saturday). The Farm Store is 2 miles down the main road (Farm Road) after you enter the community.

Thanks, I see the confusion now; Google Maps found another Walker Road in Summertown. The map link above goes to a Walker Road off Brace Road, farther down 43 from Summertown. Google Maps appears to get it right if you search for 100 Farm Road, Summertown, TN: https://www.google.com...

How many miles is this hike? And how would you describe the difficulty?

    April 17, 2014

    • douglas

I would say 2-3 miles. Moderate difficulty. The path gets a bit steep at the end of the trail going down to the creek, and feels a little steeper when it is time to leave the creek and climb back to the top of the ridge at the end of the hike. The second half of the hike will be along a creek and there will be some creek crossings. Sometimes rocks are slippery. A walking stick can help.
