  • The weekend of June 13-15* we've been invited back to volunteer on the Cumberland Trail's "Big Dig!" Over the weekend we'll work the trail, camp, tell ghost stories, and best of all, the Nashville and Chattanooga Hiking Meetups will officially come together!

The Cumberland Trail is a 300 mile linear trail which, when complete, will stretch from Chattanooga to The Cumberland Gap. 190ish miles are hike-able now, and the entire trail is being built by volunteers and seasonal workers.

    See photos from previous builds:

We'll head to Soddy Daisy (near Chattanooga) on Friday afternoon/evening; work from about 8 to 5 on Saturday on the North Chickamauga segment of the trail; eat, camp, and laugh that night; then get up and work again Sunday, and head home Sunday afternoon/evening.

All food is provided, and let me tell you, it's always been yummy! We'll be staying at The Lutheran Camp, which has real beds in dorm style rooms (so bring linens, single size), or you can bring your own tent and camp under the stars!

If you don't think you're up to digging in the dirt, we also need volunteers to help in the kitchen! If you'd like to relax at camp during the day and cook dinners for the volunteers, please email me directly at [masked]

*We realize that June 15 is Father's Day, so if you need to spend Sunday with dad, we'd love to have you work just Saturday then head home.

Click here for directions from the Hickory Hollow Target to Lutheran Camp.

    • List of what to bring will be added shortly
    • Carpool information to come
    • All meals and tools provided
    • Camp has bunk beds
    • Camp is on Chickamauga Lake so you can swim, paddle, and fish!
    • No children under 16
    • No pets

I'm hoping to make this my first Meet Up with this group! However, I will be coming from Ft. Campbell and won't be able to hit the road until 4pm when I get out of work. I would be happy to carpool if anyone else is getting a late start.

Skye, would love for you to make it no matter what time you have to leave work. Let's keep posting messages here as we arrange for carpools.

I'm so jealous of this event! I miss trail builds at the camp with the lake!
