Meeting Time: 9:00 AM
Meeting Place: Target Hickory Hollow
Estimated Drive Time One Way: 1.5 - 2 hours
Hike Distance: 3.5 miles in, camp overnight, then 3.5 miles out
Difficulty: Strenuous

Well behaved dogs on leashes welcomed
Join your hiking buds for a strenuous backpacking trip exploring one of the best natural areas in Southeast Tennessee. The 3.5-mile trail descends steeply into the Walls of Jericho natural amphitheater, crossing many creeks and streams. We'll hike in Saturday morning, set up camp near the cemetery, explore the Walls of Jericho, then return to camp for dinner under the full moon!
This is not an easy hike. Be prepared for mud, slippery spots, and many wet crossings. Do not attempt this hike if you are unsteady on your feet or are not in good shape.
We'll meet at Target Hickory Hollow and carpool from there. Be sure to offer gas money to your carpool driver. We plan on parking and starting from the Alabama trailhead then returning there on Sunday.
To bring: Tent, sleeping bag and pad, food, water, snacks, utensils, toiletries, flashlight or headlamp, clothing appropriate for the weather. Optional items: camp stove, camera, ghost stories.
Also I recommend you pack water shoes or sandals to change into to make the last creek crossing. We'll change out of our boots into water shoes, then change back after we come back over Turkey Creek.
Let the event hosts know if you have any questions, [masked]
Optional meal at Crust Pizza, or Shenanigans ( http://www.shenanigans-sewanee.com/ ) in Sewanee on the way home Sunday.

DIRECTIONS: From Nashville take I-24 east toward Chattanooga. Take exit 127 on Highway 64 and turn right toward Winchester (do not miss this exit or you'll be stuck heading up Monteagle!). Stay on Highway 64 for about 15 miles and turn south on Hwy 16 and go about 18 miles to the Alabama trailhead; about one mile south of the state line.

What a truly awesome trip this was, so many memories were made on this trip to keep me smiling for the rest of my life. Never knew that walking to the river so many times in one night for water ( truly lost count ) could be so entertaining!! Who would have thought that getting Mary C., David W., and Anna D. to do the bunny hop and hokey pokey in the tall grass down by the river, in a field of a trillion wolf spiders could be so much fun and that someones laughter could bring a smile to my face long after our journey ended. So proud of Gena L. for punching fear in it's face this weekend. Thank you Gena & Art for making this trip a fun one. Thanks to each and everyone who of you on the trip that added just the right amount of your personality to the journey, because without that the trek in the woods would not have been the same. Mary D. I cant wait to see your hedgehog : )

Okay Mary and David! Should be there around 11.
Todd, someone will pick you up in Murfreesboro!

Gina, I'm a experience backpacker though out of shape. Seems like if the hike is only 3.5, I should be good to go. Any reason why that wouldn't be true?
