I have done this hike pretty regularly and have never needed waterproof boots. I even walked it in the pouring rain. The trail isn't so long or hard that you need special gear. I would have water and shoes/boots with decent tread. That's it! There is a very brief stop if you want to bring a snack, but you really don't need one.

Tom we cross over a bridge so waterproof footwear is not necessary. Also the trail drains well and has very little mud if any for this time of year.Hiking boots or shoes are great but if you have a comfortable pair of tennis shoes that would be fine.
