We'll be doing the Clayborn Millennium Trail and the Merritt Ridge Trail for a total of 8 miles rated moderate to strenuous. Scenically, it will look familiar to anyone who has done hikes around Percy Priest; much of the hike follows Center Hill Lake, a dammed lake at Edgar Evins State Park.
Highlights include views of Center Hill Lake and many old stone walls. You'll also want to climb the tower at the visitor center to catch a great view of the dam (either before or after the hike).
Bring water, lunch, and gas money for your carpool drivers. Optional early dinner to follow.
TO TRAILHEAD: Head east from Nashville on I-40 toward Knoxville. Take exit #268 off I-40 and make a right on TN 96. In 3.6 miles, continue straight into Edgar Evins State Park. Go 2.6 miles to the trailhead (on left).
