Lisa, thanks so much. You made it very feasible for those that have not done this for awhile. So much has chg with the gear. I hope a spot opens up. Jane :)

Hi Lisa, I went on a trip today at Warner Park where Donna (last name?) told me that you sometimes lead moderate, shorter hikes. I am getting back into hiking and am working up to longer hikes and long hill climbs, but right now I'm at 5-7 miles with several stops for breath up hills. Yes, I feel truly pathetic in front of the long-distance power hikers and backpackers that populate the hiking and outdoor adventure group, but a person has to start back in somewhere, right?

Thanks for your suggestions. I got a small blue Osprey Aura 50 and it worked great when I took it overnight in the Ozarks a couple of weeks ago. The mesh back is very comfortable and I like the way the various compartments are placed.

    Hi Lisa,
I camped out at Big South Fork with you on Oct 7th. I need a new backpack for 1-3 night excursions. What do you suggest. I am 5'2".

Lisa, the entire 79 miles of the trail that runs through the Smokies is all in top condition now. The rattlesnakes are so populous this year. 3 in 10 days on my friends farm near there and 2 on our work trip. They are so easy to avoid though as they rattle very loudly. They are far less aggressive than even the black snake and will really only strike if absolutely stepped on or grabbed. So I would only say don't wander along with music in ears so you can't hear this time of year. Donna
