Data Networking for Developers

  • November 13, 2012 · 6:00 PM

We're got a great presentation this month with Jason's presentation to educate all us app developers on how our application actually works and the hardware powering it.

With the emphasis on RESTful APIs and Service Oriented Architectures, it’s easy to forget the impact that network elements can have on application performance. In this talk, we will cover firewalls, load balancers, and caching from a network centric view. Then, we will cover how to map data flow throughout your application. We will follow that up with a dicussion about how virtualization and storage can affect your application performance and how to account for it in your architectural design. Finally, we’ll investigate how to use New Relic for Application Performance Management, and Wireshark to make sure communications are occurring the way you expect them too.

I'm not in the data networking realm of things, but I did learn a lot and Jason's presentation was enjoyable!

There is plenty of parking at the venue. Make sure to NOT go to 8th avenue if any map program tells you to. The venue is off 1st avenue across from Crema Coffee.
