Weekly Update

Storytellers!

Do you have a great April Fools' joke for tomorrow? Be ready. Google always does a fun one. As for me, I played a joke on myself this year.

I was so excited to lock in a new meeting place for us at the television studio that I booked us on the closest opening I could ... you ready for this ... on EASTER SUNDAY!

Of course a super busy studio would have an opening that day; it's a holiday. And not just any holiday. It's the one that the entire Christian population around the world celebrates as the most critical foundation of their faith -- Jesus raising from the dead! Without that fact, Christianity is worthless. And without my brains, I am worthless.

April Axis Meetup Update

To make it up to you, I have booked a special outdoor covered picnic shelter at Warner Park Shelter 5 for us on the following Sunday, April 27th.

http://www.nashville.gov/Parks-and-Recreation/Permits-Rentals-and-Reservations/Picnic-Shelters/Edwin-Warner.aspx

Let's get outside and enjoy the breeze, the sun, and the grass. Bring a dish for a pot luck, bring a Frisbee or football to throw, bring a grill, and bring your kids to run around and play. Heck, bring your camera and let's film something!

We'll be there from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and get down to business after we eat around 5:00 p.m. Look for the re-invite to RSVP and coordinate who is bringing what so we can make a dinner out of it.

Short Film Call For Entries

For those of us who may have a legal or justice theme (ahem, several), the Forum on Law, Culture & Society is currently accepting film submissions for their 2014 International Shorts Competition on a legal or justice theme.

Any genre is permitted. Films should run 20 minutes or less, there is no minimum runtime requirement. Finalist shorts will be screened at the FOLCS Awards Night during the Ninth Annual Forum Film Festival in New York City in October 2014. Each year the Film Festival features renowned filmmakers, actors, writers, journalists, public intellectuals, and members of the legal profession. You can check out their past Film Festivals and guests at www.FOLCS.org

2014 Awards include Best Short, Best Screenplay, Outstanding Woman Filmmaker, Young Filmmaker Award, & Audience Favorite. Deadlines: Early: May 30th; Regular: June 30th; Late: August 1st.

Entry form and rules available at: http://law.fordham.edu/academics/23811.htm

Red Carpet Premiere

All that struggle, hardship, and downright depression that can come when trying to produce, shoot and market a short film is easier to overcome when you know there is a finish line.

I am hard at work planning a premiere for hopefully all our short films toward the end of the year. It will truly be a time to get fancy, invite your friends and celebrate your achievements.

New Annual Dues

In order to do things like rent out meeting spaces, cater a film premiere, host the Meetup page, etc, it costs money. Money that one person shouldn't have to pay. But together it comes out to about $2 per month. That's a DEAL!

You may have noticed the $25/year dues fee added to our Meetup page. Let's call it the awesome sauce fee. Trust me, you want to be proud to be a part of this group? You want to attract others who care about the craft as much as you do? You want only the most committed showing up on your film sets? Then you are welcome.

This very small investment in our group will go a long way. And I even set it to give the first month free, for those who want to try it out.

For all of us who are out of state or prefer to just follow along online, no problem. All free and no dues need to be paid (but that would be cool of you). And of course, our Facebook page is still free to collaborate on and share information.

Television Studio

I will still cover your unique opportunities to produce your own very real television show, and we will finish out the year meeting at the studios. But I think it will be cool to meet while the weather is nice outside and soak up the summer a little.

If you have any questions, concerns, or tomatoes, send them my way.

Big thangs poppin'. Little thangs stoppin'.
