What: Artificial Intelligence (November)

When: Thursday, November 18,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Fidos Cafe
[masked]st Ave. S

Many of us wanted our own R2-D2 or Robby the Robot. Or maybe we were chilled by Hal in 2001 and The Terminator. Either way, scientists have been working for years to develop artificial intelligence -- a computer than can learn and think like a human. But is it even possible outside of film and television? This month, we'll sit down with Dr. Kazuhiko Kawamura, director of Vanderbilt University's Center for Intelligent Systems, to discuss where this fascinating area of technology is headed. What are the practical applications for AI? How would AI interact with humans? How long until we see AI in our daily lives?

Dr. Kawamura is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and management of technology. He is an Associate Editor with International Journal of Humanoids Robotics and Founding Chair of the Service Robot Technical Committee, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. His research includes Cognitive Architecture and Robotics, Human-Robot Interfaces and Intelligent Systems and Working Memory.
