Let's gather for another evening of motivation for our non-fiction projects and general mutual inspiration in the writing life! Tips to Getting Your Project Sold! We are so fortunate to have return guest speaker Michael Thomsett to lead us in this topic Monday night. Author of over seventy books, Thomsett speaks to us from his expertise in the thought processes and activities needed to prove your project should be published. This talk will help prepare you to approach publishers with confidence and savvy. Bring a light snack to share, and feel free to bring wine or beer for yourself or to share. I'll provide coffee and hot tea. Please email me with any questions or suggestions. Laurie

Welcome again to the Mystery/Suspense/Cri me/Etc meetup! We've had an amazing turnout so far this year, and I'm so happy that this group has been so wonderful and supportive! With that said, come one and come all! We've had a great mix of regulars and new writers, so I'm always happy to reunite with old faces and meet all you new people! Dust off your crime, suspense, cop stories, whatever you've got that will fit in the genre! If anyone would like to bring something to share, you're more than welcome to. Ten copies should be enough. Because of time constraints, please limit it to 6 double-spaced pages. If you don't have anything, that's perfectly fine as well! We need editors just as much as we need material to edit! Plus, we'll have discussion questions or an activity and great conversation all night long!

Blas Falconer will talk about the key elements of poetry as defined by Gregory Orr in his essay “The Four Temperaments.” This should help writers identify their own strengths and areas that need development. Also, knowing the key elements will help writers better critique one another with more concrete suggestions. If we have time, we will complete a writing exercise and/or discuss issues related to writing and publishing. Remember, poetry can help many writers with dialogue, the speech and rhythm, the cadence and cacophony, of human speech, especially dialogue in screenplays and fiction. Bio: Blas Falconer’s publications include a chapbook of poems, The Perfect Hour (Pleasure Boat Studio 2006), and a full-length collection of poetry, A Question of Gravity and Light (University of Arizona Press 2007). His poems and memoir have appeared in several literary journals, including Puerto del Sol, Another Chicago Magazine, and Third Coast. He is the recipient of a 2008 Individual Artist Grant and the 2009 Maureen Egan Literary Award from Poets and Writers. He is the coeditor of two anthologies: Mentor and Muse: Essays from Poets to Poets (Southern Illinois University Press 2010) and a collection of essays on contemporary Latina/o literature (University of Arizona Press 2011). He teaches creative writing at Austin Peay State University and is the poetry editor of Zone 3 Magazine/Zone 3 Press. He lives in Nashville.

Agenda: 1: Get coffee, and maybe a pastry or a sandwich. Soup is good, too. 2: Sit around and trade news and gossip. 3: Get more coffee. 4: Talk about poetry. 5: Get some more coffee. (No, really, we spend most of the time talking about our poetry; yours, too, if you come. Bring enough copies so we can read along with you and make notes -- which you will get back.) WARNING! Our discussions are free-for-alls and, although we mean no disrespect, sensitive people can be bothered by them until they get used to us.

It's here!!! THE ZOMBILONGADINGDONG EXTRAVAGANZA 2009!!!! Everyone can play! Here are the rules: You must write a story about zombies in Nashville. 1500 word limit. If there is a tie, the story with the LEAST word count will break the tie. DO NOT WRITE your name on the title sheet. I will assign each story a number. What happens is this: We all meet up at Borders at 6:30 (note the time change, people), nosh on some zombie related goodies and then we will read each story aloud. After each story is read, everyone will pick their favorite. The top three stories will take home lovely, tacky prizes and the enviable title of THE 2009 ZOMBILONGADINGDONG WINNER EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!! Any questions?? Contact Nik at tpig@comcast.net.

**NEW TIME** Let's try meeting at 6:30 in order to accomodate the great level of post-meeting conversation and comraderie we have in our group. Let's follow up on last month's guest speaker michael Thomsett by talking again about cover letters. Bring your questions and samples if you'd like to inspiration or receive feedback. We all want to be published (most of us, anyway), so be bold and take that first step if you haven't already- draft a query letter. As always, there'll be time to read aloud a sample of your writing. Depending on the number of attendees, we may have to give each read a set amount of time. Bring a snack to share and the beverage of your choice. I'll provide coffee, tea and a dessert. I look forward to seeing you there!

Join us at the October edition of the Nashville Novelist meetup. Since we are coming up on football season and since Vanderbilt plays on Saturdays and parking becomes an issue during the fall months, we are changing the day from Saturday to the second Sunday of the month. Remember... Sunday, Sunday, Sunday...... This group is for anyone writing, thinking about writing, or curious about writing a novel, whether fiction, non-fiction or anything and everything inbetween. We offer the chance to give you feedback about your writings, snyopsis, query letters....anything that you need to help you along. If you have not started writing, feel free to bounce ideas off the group to see if you have something that can become the next big thing. If you want to share your writings, please bring in a dozen or so copies, if possible, in order for the member to give you written feedback. Please try and limit your readings to 7 or 8 pages or less. (If you have a chapter or scene that exceeds this amount by a couple of pages, go ahead and bring it.) We meet at the Borders on West End Ave, usually on the second floor near the children's section. Starting this month, we'll be meeting on Sunday afternoon at 2pm. If you have any questions about the group, what to bring or where to meet, please feel free to ask. :) See you there!!!
