The Craft of Writing

  • Jul 16, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • OFFICE BUILDING

GENERAL MEETING

Please bring 10 copies of your work (3-4 pages) to hand out to the group.

Beginning writers and published authors alike are welcome and may participate by reading their work and/or by gently critiquing.  When critiquing a writer's work, remember to give a positive comment followed by your critique and end with a positive comment.  Everyone should leave the meeting uplifted, encouraged to write, and comfortable in the group to read their work when they return next month.

I bid you Good Writing!

Hi guys! Just wanted to share some details about the Sideshow Fringe Festival that I'll be reading at next weekend! I would LOVE to see you there! Details: My show is called "Brothers, again, together," and features essays I've brought to the group before.
I'm reading at 1pm on August 3rd at Belmont's Black Box Theater.
FOR ADMISSION: you have to purchase a button in order to buy tickets /attend individual shows. The button is $5, and goes to pay the tech people and festival directors. The button ALSO gets you discounts and coupons at lots of local businesses, which is AWESOME. Once you have a button, you'll need to purchase either an individual ticket for my show or a day pass, which will let you see any/all shows for Saturday - which, at $35 is an awesome way to spend the day.

You can buy your button and tickets at http://sideshowfringe2013.eventbrite.com/ . Tickets for my show aren't up yet. but should be soon. Thanks again and hope to see you all there!

Out of town this weekend, would've loved to have heard this, but glad I at least got the test run. Knock em dead, Charlotte :-)

On July 14 I am reading a story about Facebook in Melanie Vare's funny, mostly female, storytelling show called That Time of the Month. (The July show is the "Boys Will Be Boys" edition.) The show starts at 5pm at Cafe Coco. The venue is small but tickets may be bought in advance at http://boyswillbeboys.brownpapertickets.com/. I first read a version of my story at the March Craft of Writing Meetup. I'm posting this to the March, June, and July Craft of Writing message boards, so I apologize if you get notified twice or thrice.

Thank you for making the new guy feel welcome. Loved all of the stories (wish I could have heard the ones from the other group too). Especially appreciate the gracious feedback and encouragement on my sketches.

Thanks Rose Marie and Charlotte for hosting.

The Meetup on the 16th was a great experience. All of the writers present not only did an excellent job with their material, but gave carefully constructed criticism. I am looking forward to the next one.

This is a great group, and last night was no exception. We had a FULL house last night (15 readers? whoa!), so we split into two groups. My group was really great - got to hear a few short stories, and a few nonfiction pieces, which were great. As always, I got some great feedback, this time directed at how I might make use of a listening audience to bring more humor into my piece when I read it for That Time of the Month next month. A good group that is receptive to criticism and generative of new ideas and inspiration.

Is this open to all genres? Or are they're certain genres this group is focusing on?

    • Rose M.

Yes, this group is open to all genres. Every writer is welcome. Hope to see you there tonight!
