Cheryl, After reading the feedback, I'm in even more of a funk because I missed it. If you are sending out the materials presented would you please put me on the mailing list?

After reading the feedback, why am I reminded of an AA meeting?

All: If you want a copy of the handout, send me an email from your personal email account to [masked] and I will reply with the doc attached. I cannot send a doc via meetup (I think!).

Knowing, and planning around, the difference between what's important and what's urgent, is key to productivity, In this link, writing guru Steven Pressfield (War of Art, Turning Pro) has a five-minute discussion that might help you better plan your writing day/month/year:

I like the idea of future meetings on craft issues. I think one was done on blogging that I missed in the past. And another on how to get published-along with self publishing vs. having publishers publish our writing.

It all depends on what your goals are. I personally am striving for the best seller list and am going the traditional route because I want it to be my main source of income one day. I also think my story deserves a shot at the big time. At least I can try. Persistence pays off!! :)

      January 13, 2014

    • Iscah

Tyra, self-publishing *is* easy to do, but it's hard to do well. And good authors aren't necessarily good salesmen. E-books and PoD have opened the market, so that people with the talent and willingness to put in the time & effort are making sales. Romance and niche nonfiction seem to do well. Some established authors have started publishing their out of print material on ebooks after the right revert back to them. There are some legitimate reasons to self-publish, though I still think most authors would be wise to seek an established publisher. Personally, I love the whole process of book making, writing, layout, cover design, etc., so I did go the small press route, trying to feed my own company into something larger. I'm a schlock saleman though...

Overall, it was a good presentation. The presenter was structured and organized. Considering the bulk of writers present had obviously made a New Year's commitment to their writing, it was a good way to start. However, there needed to be more time allotted. Because of the time restriction, I could barely process some of what was being presented and commented on before we had to rush to the next part. The topics were good and the crowd was a good mix, but it felt like we only reached the surface. I would recommend divvying it up into either two events or elongating the existing one.

    Cheryl,
I'm going to cancel due to the flu. Believe me, you do not want my hacking, germ spewing self there. Thanks for putting this together anyway.

First, thank you. I learned a lot today. That aside, I feel motivated!

This is the online journal app I mentioned that has great talk to text success while driving. http://penzu.com/r/207f3bf8

When the noise level it too loud for talk to text I use the recorder in Evernote and later listen with my Dragon speech translator on to transfer it to "paper".

    Off to write...

Not going to be able to attend tomorrow Cheryl. :( Something has come up. Someone can have my spot. But would it be possible for you to e-mail the handout? Thanks! Happy Writing to All! :)

    January 11, 2014

Hey guys! I gave up my spot a little bit ago because I don't think I'll be able to make it. But I just wanted to say if any of you are at the querying stage, I offer query critiques. I also review self-published books if anyone is self-pubbed. Check out the blog: thequeryfaerie.wordpress.com and follow me on Twitter for writing tips @theQueryFaerie. Thanks in advance. I hope I can help you guys out in the future. Have fun!!!

Sorry, folks- had to limit the RSVPs because there is a physical limit to the room at the library. If you'd like to see another session offered, comment below. If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to offer another session later in the month.

I agree with Iscah. I would also like something in the Hermitage/Mt. Juliet/Lebanon area.

    December 30, 2013

    • Iscah

Monica, you should be able to change your reply from "yes" to "no" on one and then click attending for the other. But don't do it quite yet.

      January 2, 2014

    • Nancy S.

We can go to the original event and meet with one another regarding a new location.

      January 3, 2014

  • Cheryl R.

I see there is a lot of interest in having writers chats and meetups in locations outside Nashville. There is no secret to how to get this done: just volunteer to lead the meeting! If you want to be a meeting organizer, contact Michael Turner using meetup.com.

I cant wait for Sunday's meetup. I look forward to these sessions because they inspire and motivate me and I consider each one an investment towards the career I want. I don't mind driving a little out of my way (and I live in Ashland City:)

    2 · January 2, 2014

  • Iscah

Update: Mike told me he is trying to move to a venue that will handle more people. If that works out, we'll stick to one group.

If not, we'll overflow to the Hermitage Panera.

    January 2, 2014

  • Nancy S.

I also live in Lebanon LaNelle. I have had difficulty attending meetings because all are an hour's drive away. Something closer to Lebanon would be great.

    December 31, 2013

This one seems popular...should we maybe split in two? Have an overflow group? I'm still wanting to get more going in the Hermitage/Donelson area.

    Hi
I guess I came across this website too late as all seats are taken! So so sad. I do hope something opens up, but please do keep me informed of other writer based events. I have had several books published, in Malaysia, by Longman Pearson Education but am currently working on my first children's novel.
