We will meet in the upstairs room of Portland Brew. Bring your memoir and we will read first. 5-7 pages, double spaced and copies for each reserved person is suggested. We will also discuss the current topics on options for Publishing and hopefully have some authors on hand who have used the self-publishing route.

Sorry for the delay in getting back with everyone. The call that I mentioned that is on Tuesdays nite is closed to new members at this time, but I will post the information that we discuss if I feel it is pertinent to this group each week. I will let everyone know when it opens up again. Do not forget (Ladies only, sorry guys,) to brush up those memoirs and check out the contest at and enter the contest if you wish. Check out the website for their rules and remember there is a $25 fee to enter but that you will also receive a one page critique of your work from their judge when you enter. See you all next month. And for those who were concerned our meeting was so short, it was an hour and that is a reasonable time. If you come late, you might miss it. Unless otherwise noted the meetings are always at 2pm.

I am so sry I was a no-show. Sure didn't mean to be, but somehow got the time wrong and showed up at 2:55 in the warmth of the upstairs at Portland Brew. Briefly felt like an alien… then checked my email, and realized indeed I was. So I asked pretty much every person up there if they knew where the group had gone (thought you had moved to a new location because it was hot), and finally the young man with the headphones behind your corner said he heard one of you remark, "Well, I guess we're done!" All in the space of maybe 50 minutes. Wow, that didn't take long. How could seven people possibly read 5-7 pgs. of their manuscript in that time? I think I am sorry I missed the meeting, and folks up there said you were having a great time and laughing, but how is this possible in 55 minutes? Sincerely, Breezy.

Sorry Susan, I should have been more specific. I absolutely have an interest in memoir writing and have great respect for those sharing their personal stories. I apologize for the ambiguity.

Not a problem at all Brett, I just wanted to make sure you understood that when people share a memoir they can be very personal and just sharing them can be a very vulnerable experience. I do not want to make anyone uncomfortable and we have had people come who thought we were just a writer's group and not realize we are only memoir. So I always like to make sure people who are coming for the first time understand the solemnity that can be part of a memoir group - it is a unique storytelling experience and not like that found at a Fiction writer's group.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
