Dr. Joel Kahn’s ~ Book Description
For years as a cardiac surgeon I watched my patients suffer with heart disease, the majority of which could have been avoided through lifestyle changes. At home, we eat healthy, get sufficient exercise and use effective ways to deal with life’s stress. My wife, Karen, urged me to write a book to share with others how our lifestyle could dramatically improve the quality of their lives.
My book is divided into two parts. The first part focusing on why holistic heart health is so important, discover some tools and tests to assess your own heart status, and learn why natural remedies are often just as effective than many state-of-the-art medications and surgeries. The strengths and weakness of traditional approaches of medication, stents and surgeries are presented. Finally, a discussion of how to know if you have silent heart disease is reviewed in detail.
The second part of my book has dozens of holistic heart practices. Each of them are powerful, proven by research, and road tested by my patients and myself. Over six dozen science based prescriptions are described for you to choose from for your health. Seven chapters on nutrition, food habits, fitness, emotional health, ecology for the home, supplements, and a daily plan of attack is presented. Finally, a section on resources in print, video, digital and healing centers for your continued education is the concluding chapter.
I’ve been fortunate with an incredible team of talented people who supported and helped me to fine-tune my book. I am eternally grateful for friends like Dr. Daniel Amen, M.D., and Tana Amen, RN, BSN who shared many insights into the publishing. Lisa Hagan is my amazing literary agent and most vocal supporter, and the team at Reader’s Digest magazine made this project a reality.
