I am so sorry that I didn't meet you guys prior to the meetup. I recognize many of you from the meetup pics. I was so happy to attend this event and see so many sisters with natural hair. It was empowering. Not to criticize the event..but I just wanted to see more vendors in a larger space. But overall it was great. I was thinking..what if some of us got together and hosted an event? Thoughts??

I felt the event was poorly planned. The venue was a small auditorium located in the heart of the VERY BUSY Mission district. Therefore, parking was a nightmare. I was hoping to get more information in regards to hair care products but the vendors there only sold Shea butter, lotions, soaps, earrings and head wraps. In conclusion, this event was very disappointing.

The expo was fantastic despite the late start. It was great that this type of event came to San Francisco for a change (we need to have a bigger presence here).

I had a good time, met three wonderful women who I met up with prior to the Expo. Great bag of samples. My only comment would be never have the event in the Mission the same time as Cinco De Mayo..parking was a bear for some.

    May 6, 2013

  • sophia

It was very basic information. I was expecting so much more. Next time maybe it should be in Oakland to accommodate parking and space. Wish there were more vendors

Even though there were some things that could have been done differently, I had a good time and would like to see more of these in SF. Perhaps more communication beforehand (parking info, the fact that there was a panel discussion and program planned) on the website would help. I forgot BlackOnyx was supposed to show up, even though I went hoping to buy some of her products. I was getting ready to leave when she showed up and by that point most of the attendees had left already. I was also bummed that she didn't have any products to sell.

Re: Parking... A huge issue in that area, and it's unfortunate that more information wasn't given to people about parking. You have to know the area. In the future, drive away from the center of the Mission district going south. And ladies, please don't let this stop you from enjoying this beautiful city in the future.

It was great to see so many natural Black women out and about in the gentrified Mission district. As an SF native, that made my day. The room at the Women's Bldg. was a bit crowded and the vendor locations weren't ideal, but I'm glad the expo occurred. Keep rockin' it natural, sistas!

    1 · May 5, 2013

  • Jasmine

I definitely echo Sophia and Porsche's sentiment. Other ladies I spoke to were a bit thrown off as well and expressed their interest in seeing more vendors. What threw me off was the flow of the event and the panel topics. I'd have like to had seen topics that spanned and highlighted the natural hair journey, from transitioning to proper natural haircare maintenance.

The event overall was okay. Like others I was expecting more vendors and the late start time was a little annoying. I felt that the panel should have had a theme or a topic of focus though. Not enough seating for everyone either. The vendors that were there had some awesome soaps and accessories. Goodie bags were packed with great samples and I was surprised with all the stuff I got. Overall it was a fun outing but could have been better organized in a lot of areas.

I came all the way out to SF from Vacaville to attend the event and when I got out there I could not find any parking. I literally drove around for an hour looking for a parking spot, so sadly I had to return home; I was so looking forward to attending this event too. My suggestion for the next one is to find a venue with plenty accessible parking.

Hello, Does anyone know where I could get flavored shea butter?
A friend is crossing the country to help (blessed) and shes a shea butter feind so I know some mango or peach shea butters would be great for her. I'm trying to make (another) gift basket. Who knows you might win a gift basket too. Any ideas? Thanks.

FYI: for those looking for a café... Muddy Waters on Valencia but closer to 16th and Dolores Park Cafe at 18th but on Dolores St. are two good options.

It sounds like we should organize a pre-meetup meetup! :-)
I don't know of any coffeehouses that are really close to the Women's building. Tartine Bakery is nearby; warning: there can be a long line and not a lot of space for seating when it is busy.
