Sundog Natural Building 9 day workshop - Granville OH

  • Sep 14, 2012 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

I posted this meetup on 7/1/12 - since then I talked with Bryan (one of the instructors) and he has provided some new/addtional information:

There will be 3 Vegetarian meals served each day (included as part of your workshop fee)

There will be a shower and composting toilets.

There is a workshop coordinator - Her name is Rene Vogel, you need to contact her at [masked] to make payment arrangements. I have a number for her too - I do not want to post it here so shoot me an email and I will send you the flyer that has all the info.

Arrival day is Sept 14th - dinner will be served at 7pm

Departure day is September 23rd - we will work a half day and depart after lunch

In-between we will have a blast building a cottage constructed out of cob. There will be hands on learning along with group construction discussion.

9 day cob building workshop in Granville OH taught by Sundog Builders of Point Arena CA.

We will be building a cob building from start to finish in 9 days!!!!! We will learn proper site selection - foundation/walls/windows/roof - how to take advantage of passive solar and more. The way we will build is the most interesting - with our hands using hand tools - imagine a peaceful working group of workers who can hear the natural sounds while building! Mud dancing - handling wet clay - placing the material - if you like to build and want to know how to do it with locally sourced natural materials then this is the workshop for you!

Bryan and Kirk have taught at cob cottage and have built many cob structures - you will leave the class with a complete understanding on building your very own cottage

I am planning on attending and would like to see if there are any other members that would like to go as well. I would be up for carpooling if it works. It is roughly 7+ hours from Chicago.

They are charging a fee of $ 880 for the 9 day class - there is a savings for friends and family coming together - there is also a savings for paying 45 days in advance - you may have a total savings of 25% off of the $[masked]! Please call or email them to sign up and make payment arrangements. I have posted the information here to inform the group. You can respond to the meetup to let our CNBM group know what your intentions are but you are not signed up with Sundog until you have contacted Renee directly and made arrangements.

Please go to sundogbuilders.net to check out their website and learn more about them.

Send me an email and I will email the flyer to you.

I hope some of the members can make it, I think it would be a great event to attend together.

Thank you

Brian Burnowski led a fun & informative workshop. The food & company were fantastic, what a great time!

The cob build was really great - we ate healthy meals each day and worked together to create a wonderful art studio. There were evening activities such as painting lessons and a talent show. I could not have guessed that I would have so much fun. Sundog Builders out of Point Arena California know how to put on a workshop.
We learned how to identify soil for building - how to mix cob - how to incorporate straw bales - foundation installation - bond beams - site layout - doors and windows - ridge beams and rafters - light straw slip - adobe bricks - it was a great time. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
