Bricks will work great, and I have a ton of them (haha). One less thing to worry about. Sorry for the typo - that's an important difference!

Another advantage to doing this with bricks is that it makes a great workshop project. This skill is not being taught in this country on a regular basis - I had to fly out to Colorado for a rare chance to learn from a guy who traveled to Morocco to learn it.
It is a really fascinating and useful craft, especially for a builder. Tadelakt plaster is durable, beautiful and waterproof. You can plaster a shower stall or a sink basin with it - or a floor, or exterior walls....

I still like the plastered brick idea, though, since there was a stack of brick-like objects in one exhibit.  Of course, I don't object to tiles, though.
 
I'll be sure to put some time in this week scouting for those materials like lime and whatnot, too.
 
By the way, the man's name (on his business card) appears to be JB, rather than JP.
