Training: Become a Volunteer Trip Leader at the Potomac Gorge!

The MD/DC Chapter of The Nature Conservancy frequently receives requests from groups in DC looking to visit a Conservancy preserve, but they cannot travel great distances from the city. While we are thrilled that so many people are interested in learning more about our organization, we do not have the staff resources to meet the demand. That’s where you come in! This spring, The Nature Conservancy is looking to train a small group of volunteers to lead walks in the Potomac Gorge, our closest preserve to Washington, DC. The first part of the training will be to go on a walk at the Gorge with an experienced leader, which will give you the chance to see an expert in action. We will be hosting such a walk on Thursday, April 4. From there, future training will be necessary, and I will be in touch about that in the next coming months.

Ideally we are looking for someone who is charismatic and is comfortable speaking to groups. It would also be helpful if you are knowledgeable (or willing to learn!) about the natural history of the area (flora, fauna, and geology), and about The Nature Conservancy itself. We are looking for volunteers who are available for either week-day or weekend trips, and you could expect us to count on you to lead trips in the Potomac Gorge once or twice a year.

Email Kate Arion at [masked] if you are interested!
