A Swift Night Out

(SLIGHT CHANGE: We'll be meeting at 6:15 at Attilas's Restauant - Carryout Side at 2705 Columbia Pike Arlington, VA 22204. This is just across from Pike Park. I will check Pike Park in case not everyone gets the message. If possible, come a few minutes early for extra time to eat. If you don't want to eat, that is fine too.) As summer draws to a close and chimney swifts have finished raising their young, these fascinating aerial acrobats begin to congregate in communal roosts prior to their migration in the fall. Some roosts may consist of an extended family group of a half a dozen birds or so, but the larger sites can host hundreds or even thousands of swifts! We will meet at a location in South Arlington to observe one of these larger sites as the swifts come in to roost. (
http://www.chimneyswi...) Before that, we'll take a brief walk around the neighborhood observing what nature we can and also having a look at the restored native plant habitat along the ravine. (

I'm glad everyone else was as excited about the swifts as I was.

Great outing. Thanks so much to Lori for organizing this. The swift display was amazing! And it was nice to get a tour of the nearby park, where volunteers have done great work planting natives and getting rid of invasives.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
