Winter Solstice Hike

Take a break from Christmas shopping to enjoy the change of seasons and shortest day of the year. We'll explore the Glendening Preserve, looking for signs of winter. We'll also visit the recently completed boardwalk off the Cliff Trail. Cameras and binoculars recommended. Meet at the Plummer House. Ages 6 and up. Free. Call[masked] to register.

I too am following the weather report and I regret to say I'm going to wimp out. I just don't think it will be much fun to hike in high winds. However if you're still going, someone else in Takoma Park contacted me about carpooling so I am happy to put you in touch with her.

OK -- I am interested in carpooling -- any contact info you can provide would be appreciated. TU

I'm leading the hike. I will be there at 3 pm to start. Local forecast is for winds about 25 mph at that time, starting to drop around 4 pm. It will be windy and chilly, so dress appropriately.

please not the following from weather service
High wind warning from 6am to 5pm expecting downed trees and power lines. Might not be the best day for hiking

Great idea, I would love to go but I'm swamped at work. That's right work, not shopping. Looking forward to another similar trip.

Perfect break from the holiday consumer madness! When I called to register I found out the hike will be approximately 2 hours long, 3-4 miles and is considered to be an easy hike except for going up/down the stairs to the new boardwalk, which can be strenuous. Just so everyone knows what shoes to wear and how much water to bring.

For those, like myself who are unfamiliar with this location, what would be the signs we are looking for ? So in case I see it I might have an appropriate lens on my camera.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
