Come out to enjoy some regulars as well as some less visited memorials in a different light. In 4 miles of brisk walking, we'll visit at least 6 monuments or memorials including the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the LBJ Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial, as well as several others in the middle. This walk will not offer substantial time for contemplation and reflection, but will offer brief stops at each (except for the Washington Monument).
This is a point to point walk, beginning at the Mall exit of the Smithsonian metro and ending at Dama Ethiopian. Dama offers great Ethiopian food, coffee, and pastries. There will be a pitstop at Jefferson Memorial. If driving, park at either end (both have inexpensive or free evening parking; I suggest the National Mall or possibly street or lot parking around Pentagon City). If using public transportation, know that the end is not far from Pentagon City - about a mile which you can bus or walk. I can also explain how to bus to the Orange Line.
If you would only like to join in Virginia, you may do so by meeting us at the Pentagon Memorial. Indicate your plans in your rsvp and I'll offer a time, but you might want to bring a book. Virginia-walkers, meet at the Pentagon Memorial at 7:35 p.m. (give or take).
Please bring cash. It will making paying at Dama much easier.
Bring a SmarTrip card.
Wear comfortable shoes and layers.
Although this walk is in the city, it still covers 4-5 miles. Please be prepared to walk 4-5 miles at a healthy clip.
