If, like myself, you've found yourself staring cluelessly at the plethora of plants along a trail, here's an opportunity to get some education. Join other nature lovers for a nature program on winter weeds at Ft C.F. Smith in Arlington. After the walk, we can head nearby to the Italian Store for lunch.
Spring and summer wildflowers get all the press, but those blooms give way to wonderful shapes and textures of winter weeds. We’ll talk about winter survival and seed dispersal strategies of plants, the ecological value of winter weeds, and winter weed identification. After our discussion, we’ll explore winter weeds in the meadow and woods at Ft. C.F. Smith Park.
$5 fee due upon registration.
This program is led by an Arlington naturalist. You need to register directly with Arlington if you would like to attend the weed program. Either create an account and do so online or, perhaps if you are a one-timer with Arlington, give them a call at [masked]. The program # is[masked]-M.
On getting there: The closest metro is Clarendon. The walk there is 1.4 miles, but it's a pleasant walk. One could most likely get a ride back to the metro afterwards.
