Winter Weeds + Lunch

If, like myself, you've found yourself staring cluelessly at the plethora of plants along a trail, here's an opportunity to get some education.  Join other nature lovers for a nature program on winter weeds at Ft C.F. Smith in Arlington.  After the walk, we can head nearby to the Italian Store for lunch.

Spring and summer wildflowers get all the press, but those blooms give way to wonderful shapes and textures of winter weeds. We’ll talk about winter survival and seed dispersal strategies of plants, the ecological value of winter weeds, and winter weed identification. After our discussion, we’ll explore winter weeds in the meadow and woods at Ft. C.F. Smith Park.
$5 fee due upon registration.
Program #622943-M

This program is led by an Arlington naturalist.  You need to register directly with Arlington if you would like to attend the weed program.  Either create an account and do so online or, perhaps if you are a one-timer with Arlington, give them a call at [masked].  The program # is[masked]-M.

On getting there:  The closest metro is Clarendon.  The walk there is 1.4 miles, but it's a pleasant walk.  One could most likely get a ride back to the metro afterwards.

Thank you Arlington County and Meetup Nature Lovers for a wonderful event and lunch. Cliff is a great instructor. And everyone that attended was someone I enjoyed being with today and would do things with later.

suggest using only the number portion when searching for the event ... that will bring forward a list, and our -M one will show ... press the picture the the left of the -M listing for registration ... but you must first have an Account and a Family Member (yourself, a second time) with Arlington, which you can do on the same web site, then come back to the listing to go for this class..

Do we need to bring the receipt?

I registered fine for it. Pain in the Buttski cuz you have to join the Arlington County program, and you have to pay the$5 with a credit card, but it worked and i got a receipt. the event is[masked]-M. Try it without the M. The effort was worth it for me cuz i'm a whacko weed lover, and absolutely NOT a lover of weed whackers.

The event does not look to me like it is canceled. Can you use the "advanced search" from the online link, search for events at Ft CF Smith Park, and get to the weeds program that way? It works for me. Or try calling them.

OOps I have not registered with Arlington yet. I overlooked this step in my enthusiasm to attend a winter walk and I wonder if others have made the same error of omission. I'll contact Arlington by phone on Mon. the 31st. I really look forward to this event as the walks I have led have been exclusively spring through fall. Everyone get ready for the medicinal/edible wonder and notoriously invasive Ground Ivy which is still evident in its usual environments!

Please don't put off registering with Arlington for too long. They will cancel the program if the numbers are too low and right now, I think only 1 person other than myself has registered.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
