$5 Charity Hike, Indian food, and Bookstore afternoon...

Come out for a special charity hike to raise money for a tree bank in the Dominican Republic. The event will consist of a short hike, an Indian buffet lunch, and a trip to a used bookstore.

Meet at 11 a.m. just outside the Grosvenor/Strathmore Metro Station on the Red Line, Rockville/North Bethesda, MD. Note that Metro runs less frequently on the weekend and is often delayed due to track work.

We will walk from the metro to Rock Creek Trail. Total distance will be about 5 miles. This is a point-to-point hike. We'll head north on the trail and end up at Mem-Sahib Indian Restaurant where we'll indulge in an all-we-can-scarf buffet, suitable for both herbivores and carnivores. After eating, we will adjourn nearby to the Friends of the Montgomery County Library Bookstore, a book lover's paradise. Finally, we will walk to White Flint Metro Station. If you drive, you can take the metro one stop south (or you can redo the hike in reverse on your own). I predict that we will be done around 3:15.

The charity that is the the beneficiary of this hike is the tree bank project of Earth Sangha. This tree bank project in the Dominican Republic aspires to help end the cycle connecting poverty and forest loss. Learn more and watch a video on landowners here.

**Please bring $5 (or more) for the tree bank, your SmartTrip card, cash for lunch($11 + tax, tip, extras) and the bookstore, and water. If you would like to donate online to the charity for tax purposes, that is okay by me.

(If interested in this charity, note that they also have a coffee event in Annandale on Jan 13.)

Nature Lovers is proud to be sponsored by Clean Currents.

What a nice day for a walk. I enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. Didn't commit to the dinner, but I'm sure it would have been a friendly meal

Hey, folks. Sorry but something has come up and I don't think I will be able to join you tomorrow, after all. Have a wonderful time and if anything changes on my end, I will let you know. Thanks. Mary
