We'll have our own private after-hours visit to the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center where naturalist Andy Brown will provide a short presentation on the owls of our region and then take us on a quarter mile walk along the swamp boardwalk to search for the owl residents of the preserve. With some luck and patience we will get to hear them calling and maybe even see one up close. The Nature Center will be open at 6:30 if you would like to spend some time with the live animal exhibits. Space is limited to 25 participants. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. There is an $8 per person fee for this event.
Folks are welcome to call the Nature Center for questions or additional information at [masked] or visit the web site at www.calvertparks.org
Nature Lovers' Meetup is proud to be sponsored by Clean Currents. They provide electricity powered by wind energy in DC and MD. It is easy -- just sign up and get your bill from Pepco as usual. Please check out http://cleancurrents.com
Yep I'm going to say it - it was a real hoot! Despite the frigid temps it was a delightful evening. Thanks for the education and the chatter. Getting a response from nature - it doesn't get any better.

nt-21279609 for some more info about owls. How they can turn their heads 270 degrees and not strangle themselves.

Thanks Andy! Your calls were great in getting a response from the two owls. What's the next Meetup going to be?

Per the ride from the Branch Ave Metro: I've had to cancel my spot to take my dog to the vet for an urgent post surgery appointment this afternoon. Only Robert had responded that he was going to ride with me (and I've emailed and called him to let him know), but I wanted to post a note here in case anyone else was planning on showing up for the ride.

Road conditions are good here in Calvert County, so don't let the snow deter you from attending. It actually is better for hearing owls. Don't hesitate to call the park for information [masked]

sorry that I changed my rsvp. It's just too cold for my old body. I hope someone can take my place

Hi, I'll be with a friend on Friday evening who is also interested in coming on the walk. Is that OK or is it still full? If it's full and an additional person is not OK, I will un-RSVP and someone else can have the spot.

I do believe that Lori is going to set up a wait list. Please contact she or I if you would like to be added to the wait list.

Since I have a rental car this week for a trip (I normally 'drive' an ebike lol) I'll be happy to provide a ride for up to 3 people from the Branch Ave metro station on the Green line.
There is a good Italian restaurant close by - Topolino's - http://www.topolinorestaurant.c...
that has a good & reasonably priced buffet ($16.99) as well as menu selections. There are vegetarian options and limited vegan options on both the buffet and menu.
We would need to leave either the metro station or the restaurant (if there is interest for that) promptly at 6pm. Its an hour's drive and it will be rush hour, so I'm adding 30 mins to drive time to be on the safe side.
