Announcing a new Meetup for nature lovers meetup!
What: Birding at Monticello Park - for late risers!
When: Saturday, May 15,[masked]:30 AM
320 Beverly Drive
Alexandria, VA 22305
By popular demand, Nature Lovers Meetup is offering a birding outing for those who like to sleep in!
Join us for birding at this little gem of a park in Alexandria. We'll explore Monticello just after the peak of spring migration. Warblers and thrushes are the specialty migrants at this easily birded (4.7 acre) neighborhood park. If there is interest, we can go to a local establishment in Del Ray or on Mt. Vernon Ave. for lunch afterward.
This park has earned a reputation as a migrant hotspot, esp. in spring. And the birding is at least as good as in early morning if not better. If we're lucky, we'll get to view birds that are normally high up in the treetops come down below to drink or bathe as the sun's rays hit the stream. Good birding is not guaranteed anywhere but if the birds and weather cooperate we'll have a chance of seeing and hearing a dozen species of warblers.
Snack and water optional. Binoculars, field guide and comfortable clothing essential.
Expect walking and standing. A thorough search of the park will take 1 1/2 to 2 hrs.
No entrance fee. No bathrooms. Parking is along Beverly Drive. Parking at the end of Beverly Drive (near intersection w/ Russell Ave.) is probably best, as there are no curves there. Obey posted signs!
Park is located at the bend in the road. Meet me near the kiosk.http://alexandriava.gov/recreation/info/default.aspx?id=12290
