New Meetup: Overnighter in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Announcing a new Meetup for nature lovers' meetup!

What: Overnighter in the Blue Ridge Mountains

When: May 22,[masked]:15 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: I spent a week in the blue ridge mountains recently and it was very refreshing. The folks at Bears Den Trail Center in Bluemont, VA were very very friendly and hospitable. You can get more info at their website (click above). Please call them to reserve a bed for yourself and your guests, if any, by calling 540.554.8708. Please call them soon because they are filling up fast.

We will meet at the Herndon Monroe park & ride. It is right off Dulles greenway and Fairfax county parkway and also connected by many buses (fairfax connector 980 from West Falls Church, metrobus 5A from L'Enfant plaza and Rosslyn among others). We'll be at the 5A bus shelter. I chose this place because it would help us avoid rush hour traffic. From Herndon it is just a 40 min drive to Bluemont.

Please let us know if you would be driving. I won't be :-)

The trail center has comfortable rooms with bunk beds, shower, etc., (separate for men and women). It also has a grand living room, kitchen and dining hall. Please call them for more details about availability, rates (15 to 25 $ for the night). We will spend the night there and then start hiking at 9 am on the Appalachian trail. After the hike, in the afternoon we can visit nearby farms and vineyards. It is really beautiful out there. We should be back in Herndon by 6pm saturday at the latest.

Please rsvp only if there is a good likelihood that you will make it

Please bring proper hiking shoes, some snacks for hiking, and food (either ready to eat or to cook in the kitchen) for dinner, breakfast and lunch. Linen, towels, etc., are available at the trail center.
