Documentary Film: The United States of ALEC

We will show a documentary, "The United States of ALEC," about the American Legislative Exchange Council.  ALEC's website claims it "works to advance the fundamental principles of free-market enterprise, limited government, and federalism at the state level through a nonpartisan public-private partnership of America’s state legislators, members of the private sector and the general public."

The documentary shows how this little known organization has transformed the American political scene by writing legislation used by conservatives in many states to rewrite laws favorable to their values, interests and corporate contributors. Two of North Carolina's legislators, including Speaker Thom Tillis are on the ALEC Board of Directors.

The documentary was produced by Schumann Media Center, Inc.   We will also discuss the documentary as time allows.
