NE ATC+ December 2013 Meetup & Holiday Party--note NOON start time

  • Dec 14, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • Christ Lutheran Church

Don't miss our annual holiday party! Here are all the details.

Swap themes for December 2013:

1. True colors: You make all cards in a single color of your choice. Sign up on the Message Board to "call" your colors (but if you just show up with monochromatic cards, that's OK--you can still participate).

2. Shapes found in nature: Letters, numbers, whatever you like.
3. "Corner-joiners" technique: This is a duo or trio of cards that can be joined by the origami "corner joiners" that Terry taught at the November Meetup. The actual card theme: Artist's choice.

ACTIVITIES:

--We'll do the annual Goodie Bag Exchange. Sign-ups are now closed, but participants can find all the details right here!

--You're also invited to bring handmade items to sell to other attendees--see the details in this Message Board post.

--We'll have our annual holiday potluck. Sign up here if you'd like to contribute something.

--We'll have a Yankee Trader swap. See this Message Board post for all the details.

--You're also encourage, but not required, to bring a canned or boxed food item for our annual food drive; the items will go to a local food pantry. See the Message Board for a list of needed items.

I am sad to say that, besides the weather, I have a sick daughter & another conflict. I am going to have to miss the party. I DO have bags for the goodie bag exchange & will get them to people next month. Have fun everyone.

Leaving shortly to be there to help out. Scratched the strawberry Santas and bringing cheese, pepperoni and crostini appetizer with deviled eggs. The Santas are obviously made by someone who is part of Martha's army. Lol.

Oh, I'm REALLY sorry, but I have to bail. Can't drive back from Merideth's in snow which is what we're going to have. I'm heartbroken to be missing the fun. (My chunky arches, goodies and true colors are already with Anne).

I have all-wheel-drive so I'm fine with just leaving home earlier and taking it slow driving. Glad to know "if church is open we're there" as I'd hate to miss out. I am working the following two Saturdays!

Ellen: If you want to drive together, just drive to my house in North Attleboro. I can drive from here. I'd plan to leave about 10:45a.m. to arrive a little early to help with set up, so if you could arrive to me between 10:30-10:40a.m. that would be great! If you want to commute together, just let me know by emailing me privately through this site. Thanks!

      December 10, 2013

  • Anne

I know the weather may be iffy on Saturday. If we have to cancel, it will be tough to reschedule, as the church has pretty limited availability at this time of year. So I'm inclined to proceed if at all possible--in the past, the rule of thumb has been that if the church is open, the Meetup is on. But watch for updates Friday night and Saturday a.m.

Weather permitting I'm attending. However I can't get there until 1ish. Working until 11:30

SOOOO excited! This event is my anniversary of joining this meetup group, and is always wonderful and inspirational! This year, I'm especially excited to be there as I have missed everyone with my grad school activities taking over all of my time. I look forward to catching up with everyone, participating in swaps, the yankee swap, goodie bags, etc.

FINAL COUNT FOR THE GOODIE BAG SWAP: 26!

If you want to make a couple of extra packets of goodies just in case we have last-minute attendees or newcomers, that's absolutely fine.

Phew! I finished mine just days ago and Claudia also did hers. We each made 25! PERFECT as we can then just "leave ourselves out" when we pass them out, which is just fine since we will get each others that way still, too! THANKS, Anne! I did have a few extra supplies that I will keep for making "welcome" packs/"inspiration" packs like years past.

Any extras that do get brought will be taken home by me (Kate) and sorted into new member welcome packs or "inspiration packs" for anyone who attends a meetup and needs supplies or wants some inspiration. All the supplies for these for the past several years have come from the extra goody bags, so they are really appreciated!

I will bring a folding table for the Yankee Swap.

One really cool example is the Butterfly Wing Alphabet: http://bit.ly/IgIDqB

Another one is the Alphabet in Nature series. http://bit.ly/1aN1G66. And I think Kate's examples are great, too.

Pat! I love the environmental site. Especially the trucks!

Maybe letters/numerals found in the environment would give us more options. Check these two sites: http://stacymallak.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/environmental-typography/

I'm confused about 'shapes found in nature'. Letters and numbers are not from Nature! Does this mean 'shapes of letters and numbers that are found in nature'?

    November 24, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

My understanding is that this is a "loose" description as we might sometimes see a "letter" or "number" in the shape of a sidewalk crack, a branch, a puddle or other part of nature. Possibly there are infinite "o's" in a ripple from a rock or rain drop in a pond? Maybe a crack in the pavement resembles an "A" or a "P"?

We will be doing Yankee Trader swap again this year! See details in the "discussions" section.
