Museum good, company great! Hope to see you all soon.

Wasn't this fun!? Enjoyed both the DeCordova and the marvelously eccentric and history-field Orchard House. Thanks, Rozsi, for arranging this inspiring day trip--and thanks to all who got us into both places for cheap or for free.

In case anyone is checking, I overslept. I left messages for Rozsi and Pat. I spoke to Anne. I won't be able to get there-either restaurant or museum--until noon, most likely. I don't know if I should go to the coffee shop or directly to the museum.

    January 11, 2014

  • Karen

Hey folks, what are you all doing after the museum??

    January 9, 2014

  • Rozsi

Okay folks, here's the plan. There's a small shopping center at 145 Lincoln Road, about four minutes from the DeCordova, easily accessible from either Route 2 or 117. In the shopping center is a coffee shop, the Whistle Stop Café. We'll meet there at 11:00 and carpool over and I can shuttle back those who aren't continuing on to Orchard House. I would suggest everyone park in the bigger part of the shopping center rather than the smaller lot that serves BofA and the Whistle Stop. Hopefully, that works for everyone!

    1 · January 8, 2014

    • Kathy

That works for me. See you at the whistle stop at 11am. KathyIMG_9666.jpeg

Let's keep the official meeting time at 11, as some of us are coming from far away--it's 45-50 minutes for me, not including my detour to Concord to pick up tickets for Orchard House. If people get to the Café earlier, they can get a beverage, kick back and relax and chat. Sounds nice, actually!

      2 · January 9, 2014

  • Pat

Thanks Rozsi. I'll be there at 11. You might want to look for my copper brown Toyota Sports Utility vehicle (the auto spelling on this Kindle won't let me type the model or the abbreviation for the type of vehicle it is).

    2 · January 8, 2014

  • Rozsi

I can't meet earlier, but if someone else has passes and wants to find a place to meet and go earlier, please do.

    January 8, 2014

  • ellen

    I emailed the museum:
Thank you for your message, and your interest in deCordova. Admission is taken upon entry to the Park, so unfortunately there is no place to gather prior to paying. However, you are most welcome to meet in our lobby or our gift shop after paying admission.
    Best of luck, Erin

    1 · January 7, 2014

    • Pat

Do you think we should meet before going to the deCordova? It sounds like we have to pay as we enter the grounds so anyone without a pass will need to pay admission. I'm just not sure of a good place where we can park.

      January 7, 2014

    • Karen

Rozsi, it sounds like there is NO place to meet before paying—they take admission before you park. Should we meet at your place? It's on the way.

I think we're covered and looking forward to our excursion this weekend. And it should at least be warmer, yay! We'll meet just inside the lobby at 11:00 and go from there. While the regular meetups are less structured, come and go as you please, it would be great if everyone could be on time, especially those of us who are providing passes for others. See you all Saturday--

    2 · January 7, 2014

    • Karen

Meet inside the deCordova? What about those who are sharing a pass—isn't the pay station at the parking lot?

      January 7, 2014

    • Rozsi

I was there about six months ago, so unless something has changed in that time period that I don't know about, we can meet right inside the museum. Has anyone been there more recently who knows for sure?

    Sounds right to me.

    1 · January 6, 2014

  • Anne

So by my count, we have six passes for Orchard House (Rozsi 2, Anne 2, Pat 2), and six people who want to go to Orchard House (6 of 7 who have RSVP'd for the day--everyone except Mara, who indicated below that she's just going to the DeCordova). So I think we're covered...right...?

    January 6, 2014

  • Merideth

not sure now if I can make this. . . .

    January 5, 2014

  • Pat

I just reserved the pass from Lincoln for the Orchard House so that's two more taken care of.

    December 30, 2013

    • Karen

How about we add up the costs of the 6 passes and 2 non-passes and split it amongst the 8?

      January 2, 2014

    • Pat

I checked other libraries in the area. Belmont is the only other one I found that has Orchard House passes. I'm fine with splitting the cost between those of us attending.

thanks so much for getting passes. i will be attending the deCordova portion of the outing only, so count me out of the Orchard House headcount. looking forward. mara

  • Rozsi

Let me know when you RSVP if you would like to be covered under the passes I've reserved, or if you can get passes at your libraries. I have three spaces for the deCordova and one for Orchard House.

    December 4, 2013

    • Rozsi

Oh good, then we're covered for all eight of us. The passes reduce the cost of admission to DeCordova to $5.

      1 · December 30, 2013

    • Pat

Thanks Karen. I thought you could only borrow the passes from your own town — I was wrong. Good to know.

      1 · December 30, 2013

  • Rozsi

Okay, we've got all eight of us covered with the $5/each admittance to the DeCordova. My library pass for Orchard House will cover me and one other person for free. And Anne has her pass and is covering Karen's admission. If anyone else is a member of the Minuteman Library system, you can go to other member libraries and get passes if they have them. For instance, Sudbury's library did not carry passes for Orchard House, but Concord's library does and I've reserved those. Lincoln's library also has Orchard House passes, but I've used up my reservation capability and can't reserve any more. If anyone else is on the MLN system and are interested in going to Orchard House as well, could you please see if you can get passes at a library near you and let us know? Thanks! Looking forward to our visit.

    • ellen

Thanks, $5 is an excellent deal!

      December 30, 2013

  • Anne

I reserved two passes for Orchard House (through the college where I teach). So I have one available for that. First come, first served.

    December 29, 2013

    • Anne

OK, it's yours. I will pick it up that morning before we meet at the DeCordova.

      December 30, 2013

    • Karen

      Thank you!!!

      December 30, 2013

  • ellen

Yay! I'll see if I can get passes from my library.

    December 4, 2013

    • ellen

      I can't.

      December 28, 2013

  • ellen

I'd love a free ticket too.

    December 28, 2013

  • Rozsi

At the meetup Saturday, Linda mentioned that if work permits, she'd like to go to the DeCordova, but she's already been to Orchard House and wondered if it's okay to just come for one or the other instead of both. Absolutely! So if you want to join us for only one of the planned visits, please do. We'll start at the DeCordova at 11:00. We can either lunch there or go over to Concord and then those who want to afterwards can go to Orchard House. I'm looking forward to my first visit to Orchard House. My library pass allows one other adult, so do let me know if you want to utilize the other half of my ticket.

And this is all weather permitting as well, maybe our snowfall for the season is over and we won't have to worry about it!

If 10 people come we can get a tour:Groups of 10 or more are required to make advanced reservations and may request a guided or self-guide tour of the Museum Exhibitions or Sculpture Park.

Also, if you're a WGBH member, you get $2 off admission at the deCordova. If you're a WBUR member, you get 10% off in the gift shop.

A visit to the deCordova will brighten anyone's mid-winter day! I've reserved passes at my local library for the deCordova which will allow four people in for free. And I've also reserved passes at the Concord Library for Orchard House, which gets two people in for half price, or $5 each. I've been to the deCordova many times and there's always something wonderfully quirky to see. I've never been to the Orchard House, so am looking forward to experiencing that for the first time. Talk about contrast in era and style!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
