Journey to the Centre of the Teabag!

  • Apr 15, 2010 · 3:00 PM

The so-called "Tea Party patriots" are having their 2nd annual "Tax Day Tea Party" in downtown Cleveland on Tax Day...

I (and another member or 2) was thinking that it would be interesting to go down there, right in the thick of it... not to cause any trouble or counter-protest or anything, but simply to observe. Think of it as "people watching" with a twist :)

Of course, I'll be bringing a video camera... I encourage anyone else who attends to bring at least a still camera, who knows what we might capture? ;)

Is the whole tea party "movement" as intellectually vapid as it appears from the media coverage? (Having Sarah Palin as their "figurehead" is quite sad, indeed). Is it just sore losership run amok? Or is there a bit more to it?

Let's go immerse ourselves & see what we see.

The rally itself starts at 4pm & goes 'til about 6... I thought we'd get downtown a bit early. Perhaps we'll go for a bite afterwards.

Obviously, parking downtown will be an issue... we're all on our own for that. Being as it that Thursday is a work day + all the conservatives converging on downtown (last year was around 5,000), I can't offer any decent suggestions for parking. I may take the bus myself.

As for where to meet each other, we'll post comments on the meetup closer to the event, or coagulate by cellphone before the rally.

The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out, the conservative adopts them.

The 4 of us were chased outta downtown by pitchfork-wielding patriots! :) It was small and very tame, with plenty of complaining but no solutions offered... quite humorless (as expected), except for a guy dressed as Maximus from the movie Gladiator, who was parading around to "take back the republic". Plenty of humor amongst ourselves, though :D 4 of us went to dinner at Dianna's in Lakewood after we could take no more teabag ramblin's.

The only logical way to hook up is by cellphone... my # is[masked]-5821. We'll find a meeting spot in-progress... maybe the "FREE" stamp?

I'm planning to arrive downtown around 2:45pm... I was thinking bus, but I've decided to drive & try to find parking near the RR Hall of Fame/Science Center. Mall C is a bit of a walk from there, but it's supposed to be a nice day + escape from downtown might be easier parking near the freeway :)
