It seems we rarely hear about terrorists who aren't from the Middle East. That's not to say I have no concern about that, but I am concerned that ignoring domestic terrorism makes it easier to justify the extreme amount of energy put into just a certain kind of terrorist. This is not "don't be racist" sort of concern but a let's not put all our eggs in one basket and create security theater around one small potential source of harm.
According to federal court records, Dennis Mahon, was thumbing through an album of old pictures for the woman, showing off his Ku Klux Klan robe and other artifacts of his life when he began to tick off a list of places he claimed to have bombed since the early 1980s.
There was an abortion clinic, a Jewish community center and offices of the IRS and immigration authorities. He told the woman he liked to use a mixture of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil. He said he added powdered sugar to the mix for an extra bang. He would set off the bombs at 2 a.m., he said, so that no one was hurt but a message was still sent.
Do you favor the secular ideals of fairness, justice, liberty, and equality? Would you like to see reason and pragmatism used in our governance, instead of blind ideology and appeals to emotion?
It is often said that "reality has a liberal bias". Debate in this nation has become increasingly noxious, mostly due to the stubborn irrationality of our society's more "regressive" elements. People of a more politically open-minded inclination often find themselves to be needlessly on the defensive... it's high time we put an end to that.
This group is for all Northeast Ohio Liberals, Progressives, Democrats, Progressive Independents, Social Libertarians, and others who would like to see some real progress happen in our lifetimes... not only in America, but in the rest of the world as well.
"Liberal" is not a dirty word. Actually, by definition it's quite complimentary. Join us!
