Thats great news Zach, I'm glad to see the group will continue. :-)

I love your idea of recording meetings. I have been working on something along those lines, visiting user groups and making HD recordings with good audio quality. I've been putting them up at TechOmaha.com. I'm hoping this site can be a repository of user group recordings for all kinds of groups in the Omaha area. I'd love to work with you on making the recordings and getting them on the site.

On point #1, personally I like having a city in the name. I run the Nebraska ColdFusion Users Group. I wish it had been named the Omaha ColdFusion Users Group, just to make things clear. When you hear about a "Nebraska" group, you really have no clue where that group is based out of. We do get some visitors from Lincoln occasionally, but I don't think its because of the name. ;-)

Thanks Jonathan!

I'm delighted to take the reigns and have a few ideas for the group that I hope everyone will be open to. No sense in keeping them secret, so here goes:

1. Change the name to NebraskaJS. I'm a fan of moving the group fully lib-agnostic. I realize this might be the most controversial, any objections here? We could call it OmahaJS too, but I'd like to think bigger and include Lincoln if possible (especially considering the long term goal below).
2. Encourage open source/community contributions. I'd like to have a section of every meeting dedicated to small lightning talks on GitHub issues that members in the community have contributed to/closed out (no issue too small!).
3. More live coding and sharing of workflow and tools. I think it's incredibly useful watch other people work for short periods of time, especially given the variety of tooling options available.
4. All presentations should be recorded and published online. I think this will not only improve the quality of presentations, but offer nice exposure and incentive to present as well.
5. If scheduling allows, I think we should be open to video conferencing with Lincoln meetups as well. Hudl had a great Haymarket DevDays kickoff on BackboneJS last week.

Any other ideas or comments on the above?

In the short term, I think the goals of the group should be to increase our group and members' visibility to the JavaScript community in the form of code, blogs, and presentations. These things have the direct effect of improving our own skills but also the indirect effect of improving our careers as well.

It might be ambitious, but I don't see any reason why NE couldn't be a JS superpower like TX, MA, or CA. I think our long term goal should be to throw a NebraskaJS conference (something similar to TXJS).

So, who's in?
