Hi,
The group is for single women 50+ who love creating beautiful crafts be it knitting, needlepoint, quilting, cross-stitch, crocheting, rug hooking, or other crafts such as altered books/art, beading, collage art, decoupage, etc., and want a way to make new friends and finish projects at the same time. You are invited to come to the founder's home in Kensington/Silver Spring, MD every 3-4 weeks to get inspired, learn about other crafts and have fun. "I have decided to do this in my home because, like the book club that meets here monthly for (6th year) I can keep the meeting size to about 20 people, which is far more condusive to making friends and sharing than a large hall of 200 people". Coming to every meeting is not mandatory (but hope you do).......this should be fun and not an obligation.
Meetings will be every 3-4 weeks on Sunday afternoons from 2:00- to whenever (probably 5:00 or 6:00 -go when you need to), and will include hot tea or soda with biscuits/cookies/scones, good conversation and laughter while we work on our projects, help each other with projects if you're stuck, and plan day/weekend trips to workshops, shows, fairs, speciality shops, etc. for those interested. Next meeting is April 18th.
The Founder is a business woman and artist/crafts person......who loves doing most of the needlework venues mentioned in first paragraph, along with furniture decorating, altered art/books, beading, etc. She also pursues the arts in general: theater, music (Jazz, Rock, Blues Opera, etc.), and galleries as well as antiqueing/flea marketing, the beach, reading (personal and Book Club), traveling including day and weekend adventures, taking art/craft workshops, indie and "good"movies, Jane Austen, cooking, etc. She and other other women friends regularily do many of these activities together and are always open to new people joining in.
If interested, please write me a bit about yourself: needlework/ craft interests, other interests, what projects do you want to finish, what do you do if you are still working, how old you are, what area you live in, etc. If you appear to be a good fit, I'll ask you to call me so we can talk a bit first.
I look forward to meeting you,
Polly
