SUMMIT MOTORSPORTS PARK, BLUE SUEDE CRUISE.

Long before there was a Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio there was the Fonz, Richie Cunningham, the real Elvis Presley, Doo Wop music and the most unbelievable cars on the planet.

Saturday night at the Big Boy Drive-In Restaurant was the original Blue Suede Cruise. Life couldn’t be any better. Think back to those wonderful nights backed into a parking spot, eating a hamburger off a window tray and sucking down a Coke. Today there may be no more firsts but the memories are alive and well as Summit Motorsports Park.

The Fonz, Cunninghams and Elvis are all gone but the cars and Doo-Wop live on. Well, we have a secret for all of you below forty. You haven’t missed it yet. Come to the Summit this summer and wrap yourselves in thousands of candy-colored Hot Rods, Customs, Classics, Muscle Cars & Trick Trucks.

As a special treat the hot rods don’t just sit there there are unlimited Fun-Runs down the Summit Motorsports Park quarter-mile drag strip.

For those of you that have never attended the Blue Suede Cruise let me tell you what your $15 entry buys you at Summit Motorsports Park. Here’s the 30-second tour: Thousands of  Hot Rods & Classics on display, Fun Runs all day long on the ¼ mile, Vendors & Exhibitors all over the place, a swap meet, a car corral, the very popular Atomic Age Bazaar and the always packed Women’s World. For entertainment there is the Saturday Night Concert, huge fireworks, flame throwing and the gorgeous Neon Parade of Lights.

Thanks Darel; I would rather go on Saturday. The weather is a big factor on heading out. Walt is going on Sunday so I will ride with him since we live only a few miles apart. I was looking forward to meeting all of you. Thanks again and have a great day in Norwalk. Safe Ride to all.

I am now seeing on an hourly forecast from the WKYC weather app there is a steady decline in chance of precip from 60% at 6am to 30% at 10am and 10% at 2pm.

Darel, it looks like the later it gets the better it will be. Maybe we should look at leaving around 3-4pm instead of 1. How late would you consider going and how late do you want to wait for a go - no go decision? We would be good even if it isn't until 4 or 5 with a plan to just see the concert and fireworks.

Darel, I'm good with a later start also if need be. I promise not to take of my fairing and make it rain like the Mansfield ride

Darel, can't comment for John B. but in our neighborhood after they invented electricity and we could see what was going on outside the window it was good. Before that...not so much, except when Fred and Wilma's car tipped over and everyone laughed their asses off. It's a shame you were born 3 months too late.

I have not only because the 19th is the due date for our grandson to be born in Brooklyn. Thus will have to be a last minute decision based on when the little guy arrives.

I did have one but when I asked it a simple question and its smart ass reply was that "any knucklehead on the street should already know that answer", I chucked it out the window of a moving car. I suspect that poor bastard who was the knucklehead on the street is out of the hospital by now, it was just kind of a glancing blow. I was just happy I calculated the drift correctly.

As I am a fair weather rider, I'll have to see what Mother Nature brings us for that weekend. I *love* Doo-Wop!

This sounds like a blast...but the AMA Vintage bike show is getting all my cash that weekend. Anyone riding down to Lexington for the show?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
