Route 39 Traverse to Dandelion Festival

Ok - this is definitely different! Every year, the hills of Amish Country turn a delightful shade of yellow when the dandelions grow into full bloom. Second - here is the scoop on the winery: Breitenbach's annual Dandelion Festival will take place on Saturday May 4, 2012. This festival provides fun and many activities for the entire family. Dandelion wine sampling, cellar tours and live entertainment are scheduled. http://www.breitenbachwine.com/ - this is truly an amazing facility.

We will roll out at 11:30 (kickstands up) and head down south on 71 to route 39 - the goal is to traverse Rt 39 through amish country - through Loudenville, Millersburg, Berlin, Sugar Creek. We will probably have a lunch stop at an Amish restraunt. Roll into Brienenback. The walk downhill is easy, getting back up is fun!!! Then complete the traverse by hitting I-77 to head back north.

I had a great time and want to thank Jim O for another well organized group ride. Also, gives me the opportunity to place another video on my Youtube site. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSZtOm_IwBc

Terry, Interesting Video. When you were showing in front and behind you, was that from 2 different cameras or one camera that shoots both ways?

      May 6, 2013

    • Terry S.

Art. Two cameras. The helmet cam is a Drift HD 170 that I also have a mic in my helmet for the audio portion. The rear facing camera is a Vado pocket camera I have attached to the back grab bar.

A big thank you to everyone that came out for the ride. Meeting great people and having fun was the big plus, but having everyone get home safely is the most important part to me. It was great to meet the many new members and riders, and it turned out to be a perfect day for a ride. A special thanks to all of the ride captains (Roy, Art, Bill, & Steve) who helped keep the group on track!! I will be posting pictures, please be sure to tag yourself!

Thank you Jim O, you really made my role as an RC much easier and the ride more enjoyable. Great plan and execution, Next time I expect you will also clear the traffic at the lights too, ;-) My son Brett had a great time as my "two-up" rider. Today I got to both ride and spend quality time with him. I will try and do as good a job on my host ride coming up in June. Take care ya'll nice to ride w/U and personally meet you as well.

What a great day, the only way it could have been better would if Jim had arranged for us to park next to the stage so we didn't have to walk up the damn hill :) This was my first meetup ride and I really liked all the people the route, and Jim even made the weather perfect!
Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye to everyone...but it was nice meeting all of you.

A few people have asked how to access the files i have posted, so I just wanted to clarify:
Right next to the "discussions" heading there is a "more" heading. If you click on that, it will give you a pull down menu which lists "files". You must be signed in to access it.

I hope I make it Saturday. I have lost the battle with my cold and now it feels like it's more than just a cold. I hope I'm wrong.

I posted the ride information packet under the files section - you must be logged in to see it. It gives the overall ride plan and stops. I have also included detailed diagrams for each of the stops. The last pages are just the basic routes with some GPS waypoints; it doesn't reflect the stops - I used that for calculating the distance and time.

My cell is[masked] if anybody wants to add to RC contact list for the day. Very nice data in packet Jim.

Terrific data package Jim. Very detailed, I like that. My cell number is listed in the package, and I also monitor CB channel 3, as do the other Gold Wingers I will be riding with. This is my first meetup ride and I am excited to meet everyone!

By the way, it should take around 33 minutes from McDonald's there to Denny's in Medina according to Google Maps; so we should have plenty of time.

I will be coming from Madison down 271. Is there anyone else from the far east side who is going? I also have a couple of friends who possibly want to come along and would meet me closer to Medina. If they are coming for sure, I will make sure I let you know.

    April 30, 2013

  • Jim O

I posted the Route Map for this ride under the files section. We leave from Rt 18 in Medina, head south on I-71 for 44 miles. The traverse across RT 39 is 64 miles total. To return, we will head north on I-77 to Rt @ Fairlawn (53 Miles) Total mileage for the ride is 161 miles. Since the group has grown, I am looking for a couple of Ride Captains and sweeps to keep everyone organized. Let me know if you would be willing to volunteer!

Thanks for the route suggestions - great ideas for another ride. This ride, I planned to hit Rt 39 @ I-71 and head straight east with some stops along the way to Breitenbach.

    March 23, 2013

  • Mike R.

    +1 on the route from 250 to 93 S to 39

    March 20, 2013

  • Joe H.

Suggested alternate route. A great country ride is to take 57 south from Medina, to Mt. Eaton Rd., to 250 over to Wilmot. In Wilmot there is a great Amish buffet "Amish Door Restaurant". Then either 250 t0 77 or 62 to 39.

    March 18, 2013

    • Jim E.

If you stop at the Amish Door just south of Wilmot, another great ride is to head back to Wilmot, turn east on 250, and take 93 south to 39.

      March 19, 2013

  • Jim C.

depends on the weather & my work schedule.... amish country is always a fun ride
