Northeast Scala Symposium 2013 - Day 2

The second day of the symposium is a hands-on unconference of Scala coding workshops, panels, talks, debates, minecraft parties, and whatever else you want to make of it.

We've got the entire Hub Cira Center booked, with enough rooms for every competing definition of bijection as well as a special, padded room for discussing SIP-18.

Unconference participants will collectively fill the schedule grid Saturday morning. Bring your laptop.

Grub alert! No breakfast or other food is provided on Day 2. Eat up beforehand, and we'll all head out for lunch at the nearby train station (or wherever you want to go).

So, I also think I left a VGA adaptor (and others) in the Think room this afternoon. Did someone grab them? Also, did someone find out they had an extra Mac Retina adaptor?

I have a spare room in my airbnb if anybody is stranded

Regarding the discussion of the expression problem today: has anyone read this "solution"? http://okmij.org/ftp/tagless-final/course/index.html#lecture

I left my vga adaptor in the think! room after unapply session. Anyone knows where it is please let me know. Thanks.

I have it; thanks for letting me use it. I'll be heading to 2 (Propel) at 2:30 if you want to grab it before the next talk.

Got a preview of @jteigen's 3:30 talk on unfiltered links and intents...awesome example of monadic api design. +1

FYI: cheapest cost to PHL airport is by regional rail. Departures every half-hour on :04 and :34.

$7 if you buy the ticket on the train, $6.25 if you purchase at the 30th St. station.

Looks like they don't open till 5 on Saturdays?

      February 9, 2013

    • Brian C.

Yes, you're right. One of The Hub's staff members said they opened at 10, but perhaps he was thinking of weekdays.

For giggles, anyone interested in discussing over lunch how one might create a web framework in scala that enables both client and server side page rendering?

There are additional open WiFi SSIDs, if the secured ones aren't letting you in. If it begins with THEHUB, you can use it. THEHUBPUBLIC and THEHUBPUBLIC-WPA2 are secured; the others don't require passwords.

There's still blank spaces in the unconference agenda. It's not too late to add sessions to the schedule (whether you're arriving late, or just having an idea now).

Hi everyone, hope you can brave the puddles and make it out tomorrow. Our venue is on the mezzanine level of the Cira Centre, the weird looking high rise adjoining 30th Street Station. If you are taking the subway or the trolley to 30th street, exit to street level and then walk in the direction opposite traffic on 30th street, past the train station on your right and under an overpass. Enter the building and go up an escalator and you should see the entrance. If you're taking Amtrak from somewhere else you don't even need to walk outside; there is a bridge from the train station right onto the level where the Hub is located.

It should be pretty swanky and the wi-fi might even work, so make sure you come out and don't be shy about session ideas. But don't come hungry; we won't be feeding you except to turn you loose into the train station to fend for yourselves.

Hey, I'm curious, is there any tradition of music jamming at NE Scala?

I'll bring a flute and alto recorder.

Wow, should have brought my bass guitar...

Here's a link to the grid we'll be using to self-organize on Saturday. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoPJnj7KMjZAdEM1NkJvNkFIYUhyTTN3WXcxQWRsOGc There's lots of space, bring your ideas to fill it!

We could have a workshop earlier in the day to help people get started, etc.

How about we have a Scalatron game going all day?
