Good morning, everyone,
We wanted to give you a heads-up on one critical change on Meetup,
and to also send some
polite reminders about how you can be of service.
First, when you head to our Meetup site in the next few weeks (http://www.meetup.com/net2chi
you may see that our Head Organizer will now be "Netsquared
", and we would
become a chapter
of that larger organization. Part of the reason is to bring some
valuable resources and assistance
to our organizers, but more importantly, it's to help us stay on our
mission - to focus on how
technology can impact the social good, with a particular focus on
the Chicago area.
What this means....is little. All it means is that there's going to
be a change on a web site.
Otherwise, we're still going to remain committed to our overall
mission, and to encourage
members to take part.
And now, for those "polite reminders" promised earlier:
- Meetup.com (the site) regularly "removes" members from groups
who have not been active on the site for six months, and who
also have "bouncing" or incorrect e-mails. If you are a member
of Net Tuesday and wish to stay that way, be sure to make sure
your profile is updated and RSVP for one of our upcoming events
- We're also proud to hold an upcoming two-part exploration on
the use of web analytics for non-profits and other social good
initiatives. We're fortunate not only to have two expert
speakers (Keidra Chaney on 2/14, and Wendy Grieco on 3/13), but
both sessions will be held at Tech Nexus, located at 200 S. Wacker on the 15th floor. Since this is a secure
building, we are asking you to please
RSVP by 2/11 (for Ms. Chaney's presentation) and 3/10 (for Ms.
Grieco) simply by visiting our Meetup site.
- If you're looking to follow us in social media, please be sure
to find (and have) Twitter conversations using the hashtag #net2chi, and join our Google
Plus page (http://gplus.to/net2chi).
If you have an interest or expertise in developing a presence on
Diaspora, please contact Gordon Dymowski at
- We're in the process of planning April's meeting (we have a
note out for venue), and we are always seeking new and unique
venues focusing on tech and/or the social good - everything from
non-profits to startups, and we rely primarily on places that
have an active desire to maintain a presence in the community.
Please feel free to drop any of our organizing team (Gordon
Dymowski, Heidi Massey, or Vincent McCaskill) a line with any
suggestions or recommendations.
Thank you for understanding....and for taking the time to read such
a long-winded e-mail. :)
Hope to see you on 2/14,
Your Chicago Net Tuesday Organizing Team
