"Pimp my Nonprofit" is our regular bi-monthly brainstorm session. This time, we're helping OneWorld take their tech strategy and online communication efforts to the next level.

It's half brainstorming session, half case-study. During the conversation, everyone will have a chance to participate and learn vicariously from some of the leading technology and communications experts in DC. We encourage any consultants and geeks in the audience to show up and strut your stuff.

This month, we'll be pimping OneWorld (http://us.oneworld.ne....

OneWorld.net is an online hub for individuals & organizations that think beyond their own borders. OneWorld publishes U.S. and international perspectives on global issues gathered largely from our NGO partners around the world. In the United States, OneWorld also provides outreach and support to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that share our global values and want to participate in our network.

Roshani Kothari, Partnership Director of OneWorld U.S., will provide an overview of the current site and discuss how it can be redesigned using Drupal and integrating cutting-edge tools to better serve its community.

Google is graciously hosting us and providing food and beverage in their new Washington, DC office. If you're RSVPing on Meetup, please provide your first and last name so we can pre-print your visitor pass and prevent a line at the door.

Join us to meet, swap stories and ideas, and build new relationships. Feel free to bring any promotional materials you'd like to hand out.

Note: Come a little earlier than usual to get your visitor pass. We'll start at 7pm with snacks, drinks and mingling. The presentation begins at 7:30.

Thank you everyone for your interest! Unfortunately we're completely maxed out capacity-wise so there's no wait list, but please join us at a future event.

    •  thanks everyone for helping us hold a great event with many more participants than usual!
    •  OneWorld did a nice job presenting, but I felt that they needed to focus more on brand, message, and overall business model than technology solutions. There was good give and take with the audience. I understand what the presenter was trying to do by posing specific questions, but it seemed a little disjointed at times when the audience was on a good track and the questions then took the conversation to a completely different place. As a suggestion for the future, I think the notecards are a good idea but an even better idea would be an open Google Doc or Wiki where people could chime in real time. You could also create two cards for everyone - questions you think the organization should be considering and observations about the organization. If you formalized the creation and collection of these cards, I think the organizers would leave with more detailed feedback. Then you could push all this info back to the attendees for additional comments and observation. Everyone wins ;-)
    •  Really interesting case study. I think that there was some lack of focus to the back and forth. Don't know if it was as useful as it needed to be for the subject org. I think that they wanted specific technical advice, when the community was pointing out obvious problems (things that needed resolution) about their business plan and ambiguity of goals. Maybe they could have given better intro that included what their org does, what they hope to do, where they are in the process, what they are moving from and what they are moving to, and most importantly what they hope to get out of the current session (rather than just a walkthrough of the current website!). That would start the discussion off with a little better background and a good frame. Do you have a document that you give to orgs that helps them frame the session in this way?
