This month is certainly bucking the tradition of August being slow in DC, so we'll keep it going strong on Tuesday, August 19th with Workplace Fairness.

If you're not holed up on the floor of Congress shouting proclamations in the dark, swing by the Affinity Lab in Adams Morgan for a more relaxed affair. We'll have drinks and snacks thanks to Workplace Fairness, and in exchange we'll be asking YOU to help them revamp their blog, homepage, and subpages with better design and usability. You might even pick up some useful tips while sharing yours.

And, on a bittersweet note, our friend and co-organizer Hatef Yamini is heading (slightly) North. Hatef is moving to Philadelphia to join Avencia in crafting neato geographic applications. NetSquared veterans will remember them from our Mapping for Nonprofits event last July. At the very least, it's incontrovertible proof that you can get a job by networking at NetSquared! We'll miss you Hatef!

More about Workplace Fairness
Workplace Fairness provides information and education to individual workers nationwide and promotes public policies that advance employee rights, primarily through our website at www.workplacefairness.org. We began building the site back in 2002 as a comprehensive information/portal site, and it now contains several hundred pages of legal information for workers in a "know your rights" FAQ format, as well as links to news articles about employee rights and workplace trends, a blog (Today's Workplace, started in January 2003 as one of the first nonprofit organization blogs) and resource links. In 2007, our site was a Webby Nominee for Best Employment Site (along with megasites such as Monster and CareerBuilder) and an Official Honoree (honorable mention) for Best Law Site.

We are redesigning the blog (and converting from Blogger to WordPress), home page, and interior page templates, and would like feedback on design and usability. We would also like suggestions about ways to better feature the wealth of content already present, as well as ideas about features and content that would improve the site even more, especially regarding interactive/Web 2.0 features. We have extremely limited staff and financial resources, so must be very focused about additions, but want to continue as an award-winning site by efficiently and effectively using the latest technology.
