Pass It On: Sharing is the New Tell-a-Friend

If you haven’t implemented sharing tools on your emails yet, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to engage existing advocates, recruit new ones, and drive substantial traffic to your website and campaigns. Traditional Tell-a-Friend methods like email and web forms are not dead; but like any other emerging technology that’s out there, we have to recognize that people are sharing information in new and different ways than they always have. And we have to adapt by fitting these methods into our communications strategies or we’ll simply fall behind. Join Carie Lewis, Director of Emerging Media at the Humane Society of the United States for a training on social media strategy and tactics. You'll learn about the importance of sharing and how it’s changed over the years in the nonprofit realm, as well as tactical advice for effective sharing.

As Director of Emerging Media at The Humane Society of the United States, Carie leads social media and online advertising campaigns for the nation’s largest and most powerful animal welfare organization. Though focusing on fundraising and advocacy on a day to day basis, she particularly enjoys using Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare for the purpose of community building. As media is constantly changing, a large part of Carie’s responsibilities include evaluating new technologies and trends, as well as brand monitoring. Carie is a member of the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) and the American Marketing Association (AMA), and has been interviewed for articles on The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Fundraising Success Magazine, and The Nonprofit Times. When Carie is not sitting in front of a computer, she enjoys being outside with her rescued pitbull, Bella. Find her on Twitter @cariegrls.
